<p>I know it's late, but does anyone know why the answer to #8 on p. 647 of the blue book is "appreciation" and not "awe"?</p>

<p>Where in this part of the passage does the author exhibit the slightest bit of awe? It is an objective statement for teh most part. The phrase 'finely honed portrait' reflects an author bias in favor of the masterpiece, eliminating (A) resentment, and there is absolutely no sign of (C) confusion, there definitely is no sign of (E) derision, and (D) awe is not evident at all. The prhase qualifies the answer (B) appreciation.</p>
