BC Nursing v. UPenn Nursing?

My top choice has always been BC, but I decided to apply to University of Pennsylvania just in case, never actually thinking I’d get in. I ended up receiving a likely from Penn and now I’m so torn! Penn is the #1 nursing school in the nation but I know BC has an amazing program as well, so would I really have that much more of an advantage with a degree from Penn? I think I want to go to BC, but family and friends are telling me I’d be stupid to pass up Penn. I’m also worried that Penn will be too much of a competitive environment for me to be happy in. Does anyone have any opinions or insight?

Dear lana3208 : Your question drills down to a fundamental data point - where would you prefer launching your nursing career, Philadelphia or Boston? Both schools will provide an exceptional nursing education and will equally prepare your for the rigors of emergency room, urgent care, recovery care, intensive care, and more. You have been given the gift of a lifetime : the choice between two exceptional options. Do not consider “competitive environment” right now - decide which will ultimately make you the best nurse possible. In your heart, you know the right answer. Listen to your heart.

Lana3208- hi Lana! I was wondering what your scores and stuff were since you got into Upenn for nursing?? I got into BC’s nursing school too but am waiting to hear from penn later today. I am totally not expecting to get in and would love to go to BC if money works out but I saw this and was curious.

@ekcollege‌ Hii! I have a 2170 SAT, 780 SAT II in bio and 790 in WH, top 1% of my class but not really any stellar EC’s besides volunteering at a hospital every week and a few school clubs. Also I’m URM and from NY! Good luck to you with Penn, maybe I’ll see you in class next year haha

are you full pay, lana, or are you awaiting need-based aid? If the latter, then you should also factor in the cost of attendance. (I’m guessing that Penn’s fin aid is more generous than BC.)

@lana3208 …Congratulations on your acceptances! Did you make your decision on where you will attend? Both are amazing choices.

I think I would have to go with Penn on this one … I like BC, but I’m sure a Boston hospital will be fine with a Penn grad.
