I live in Sacramento so I wouldn't know this, but is it true that UCLA is 10 minutes walking distance from a beach? If this is true, are there surfers there? A lady who was representing UCLA said this, and I took this with a skeptical ear because I've never heard it before...

Thank you for answering...

10 minute walking distance? No, it definitely takes longer than that. It's like 13 minutes driving distance to the nearest beach (Santa Monica State Beach).

nope. that's more like ucsd. you can see the beach from your dorm over there, so cool!

It's about 30 min with bus, 10-15 minute with car, and I wouldn't attempt walking haha. But yeah this is without traffic. Traffic can add an extra 15-30 minutes.

I think it's like 5 miles to the beach. If you can do that in 10 minutes, I suggest you try out for the cross-country team.

You misheard.. Its about 15-20 minutes to the beach by bus for only $.25 each way.

Yeah - ditto. 15 minute bus ride for 0.25$

And I've never seen anyone surfing at Santa Monica before.... although from pictures it looks like it's not that uncommon. But not nearly as prevalent as in the San Diego area. IMO the beaches around LA (along the strand) are a too dirty for me. The 5 min walk & surfing applies to UCSD. And at UCSB there is no walk.

ya you really dont want to swim or surf at/around santa monica pier. id recommend going farther north towards malibu/zuma

malibu/zuma is a good place to be.. I live near there and it is pretty nice

I appreciate all of your guys responses…
