I know Beast is not suitable for contact lenses due to the care they requre but what about daily disposable lenses? Disposable lenses require virtually no care and a new cadet could rely on the basic eyeglasses for backup if necessary.

Nope. No contacts at all. You must wear BCG's.

The only possible exception is if you are only putting them in for corps sports practice...then they stay in the locker room....but if he/she gets to do this, keep quiet about it!!

ok even though disposables don't require cleaning they due require clean hands to when putting them in so I guess that's the problem.

I think they just want you to experience BCG's.

Seriously - there are so many things to worry about with new Cadets - they don't need to be dealing with eye infections. BCG's won't kill you.

dont even worry about wearing glasses it will be the last thing on your mind

What are BCGs? Can anyone elaborate on this? Also, why is the Academy so strict about glasses v. contacts?

-kpsong87

"B"irth "C"ontrol "G"lasses.

Birth Control Glasses, called so because they make you so ugly there is no risk of pregnancy cuz there's no risk of sex.

This is interesting because I had no idea this had changed. I wore my contacts (and this was back in the 80's and they weren't even disposable at all, let alone daily) throughout all of Beast and Buckner. Only days I didn't were when we were going to the gas chamber. Luckily my son who's looking at the academies now has good vision so he won't have to worry about it.

And, although I did hear the term BCG's back then, the standard term was TED's (for Tactical Eye Devices). A "Ted" was someone who was kind of a geek or a suckup in cadet slang. Is that still around?

The military calls them "TEDs" the slang is "BCGs". :D
