I have a question about eye glasses. The appointee book told us to bring a pair, but they will issue us one of those lovely BCG’s later. I don’t normally wear glasses (cause I hate them and contacts, or anything else on my face).
Does anyone know if we are going to be required to wear glasses if we need them. Or can we pocket them when they get annoying?

Sorry I don't have the answer to that one, but I do have another question...
Can we keep our normal glasses in our dorm rooms so we can use them at night or do we have to give them up until after BCT completely?

You PROBABLY have to give up your "normal" glasses until after BCT. My guess on the former question is that if you are issued glasses then you should probably wear them unless you're VERY confident that you won't find yourself in a situation where yo need them. I HIGHLY suggest they be available in Jacks Valley for the CATM (M-16 training). Worrying about how you look or 'feel' about yourself in glasses shouldn't be a consideration in BCT. If it is, you're probably headed for more problems...

I was wondering... does the Air Force Academy provide cadets with contact lenses after BCT? If not, we may have to wait until parents' weekend to receive our contacts. Any info?

They won't buy your contacts. But, you can have them mailed to you so they're available right after BCT.

Okay, glasses for shooting, that sounds reasonable. But running with the things bouncing up and down on my nose doesn't. That's what I meant. Not how I look or feel.
See, I'm afraid the things are going to fall off. The optometrist sized my glasses and then took a look at the chart they gave us to fill out and said, "Uhhh, welllll, it seems they don't get any smaller. hmmm."
That didn't sound very promising to me.

Oh, and I've shot a little before (my dad didn't want me to do it cold turkey) so will it screw with my aim if I'm not use to having correct vision?

thanks

Get a geeky glasses strap.

When dinasaurs roamed the AFA, I too was issued the black geekoid frames. During Beast, I brought with me my gold framed aviator AF issued glasses from home. As a brat, I had these nicer looking AF aviator frames made at the AF clinic where I lived. I wore those during BCT and no one ever said a thing. My guess is that until the school year starts, you will be stuck with the ugly black ones. Once schools starts, you will be able to wear contacts or AF issue wire frames. I am guessing at all this since it has been 25 years since I graduated. DocFrance probably has the most recent info.

Now they give you ugly brown BCGs! Amazingly, they're even uglier than the old black ones--a fact confirmed by the Mrs DocFrance upon first site. I began wearing them again after the birth of our second (and you guessed it) final child!
