beds at UCSD

so at orientation i thought the mattress was pretty horrible. i could feel the mattress springs when i was laying down. maybe i just got a bad mattress or maybe they're all like that, idk

1) are we allowed to bring our own mattress?
2) if anyone happens to know, what are the dimensions of the mattress, i mean like is it a standard sized twin? just for buying sheets and stuff. or at least do you know if its smaller than a twin or some weird size.

i think i remember my ol saying that they were twin extra long

It's probably not a good idea to bring your own mattress.

36x80

The beds are 'extra long twin'. The usual stores people hit to buy their 'away to college stuff' (Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens and Things, Penneys, etc.) all typically stock the correct size - especially around July-September. Just make sure you get the extra-long twin instead of the normal twin.

For my daughters, we also provided foam pads for the beds since you're right - they can be hard and lumpy. The pads make a huge difference and are inexpensive. Look for about a 3-4 inch foam pad. Regular foam or eggcrate foam should be fine. For more bucks you can think about memory foam.

I haven't heard of anyone bringing their own mattress.
