Being on Georgia Tech's Transfer Wait List

I haven’t received any notifications. If the only way for slots to open up is from people not accepting ga tech’s offer of transfer admittance, I feel like the majority of the people on the wait list will be out of luck. Either way, I wish they would hurry up and make a decision. If I’m not going to be going to ga tech, I need to figure out housing at uga pretty soon.

you got the point! I feel hopeless for that little slot for us.
I need to fill up the housing of UF too, btw.

same here…are you guys planning on ever transferring to GA tech? or just going to stay where you end up? Me on the other hand, is so depending on this -__-

Well, if I get rejected, I’ll try again for spring semester. Because I’ll be starting my sophomore year, I won’t be wasting too many credit hours at uga. I still need to take stuff like statics, differential equations, and physics 2. However, if I don’t get in then, I’ll be in trouble. There aren’t too many actual engineering courses I can take at uga that will transfer. I would prefer not to get an engineering degree at uga because they don’t have mechanical engineering and ga tech is a much more prestigious school (that would cost exactly the same since I’m in state).

Don’t get me wrong, I love uga, but this whole ordeal makes me regret choosing uga (I started off as a psychology major), especially since I could have gone to ga tech straight out of high school.

@dngolladay sucks to hear that man…I feel the same way as you bro, I’ll be in trouble too…I’m thinking about trying again for Spring semester, and I only have 5-6 Credits till I reach maximum w/ financial at GA perimeter. But then again, I am accepted to Southern Polytechnic, but nothing really transfers, as far as none of the engineering classes that is.

All I really have left are engineering classes since I’m done with all my math and science…Honestly, I don’t know what to do, so frustrating ;(

@illestfa5, have you thought of transferring to a school with the RETP program (AASU, GCSU, etc.), and then transferring to Tech from there?

@atlBrandon the school i go to now have RETP program, but I’ve used up alot of credits already…so if I do that, its going to be time consuming and expensive. So I was planning on maybe re-taking the class I got C’s in, like Physics 1 (Since I only have 5-6 Credits Maximum that’s eligible with Financial Aid) this fall IF I get REJECTED (Which i hope not :frowning: )and then re-apply for Spring Semester at Tech.

What do you think of that? Or go to Southern Polytechnic (Which I am accepted to already) and re-take classes there? Then re-apply for Spring at Tech.

I mean, none of the engineering classes I see transfers to Tech, since they have Electrical Engineering Technology and not Electrical Engineering…since they are different. Sigh…

@illestfa5 I don’t know if your grades from fall semester show up on a transfer application for Spring (the document deadline is October 1). Also, retaking those classes is kind of risky because there is still a chance you will get rejected.

I believe your best hopes at getting into Tech is completing the RETP program at Perimeter which then will guarantee transfer. However, if you believe it isn’t worth your time or money then I would transfer to Southern Poly and finish your degree there.

Also, I just stumbled upon these statistics on GT’s transfer page

[Transfer Admission | Admission](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Transfer Admission | Undergraduate Admission)

2012 Transfer Class Profile
Applicants: 2,935
Admit Rate: 40%
Enrolled: ~ 900
Average GPA: 3.55
Average Math/Science GPA: 3.50

It also says the deposit deadline was July 15, so we should be hearing back from Tech any day now… However since they are already posting statistics about their 2012 transfer class that makes me think we aren’t a part of it :(

True, but is it true that for Spring semester, it is a higher chance of getting accepted as well? And on the site, it says "
The Spring 2013 transfer application will become available August 1 (application deadline October 1st). " I think that may not include documents…

Sigh, I don’t know…We will just have to wait and see. FOLs…

This is crazy…I don’t even meet Average GPA or anything and I’m on the wait list. So are we only filling up people who applied to transfer to Tech this fall? Or any applications Period.

Those statistics are just a bit depressing lol… My gpa is about .25 higher than their averages. Makes me wonder if I should have applied for aerospace instead of mechanical.

Well, according to the site, “Students will be contacted as soon as we know space is available, but no later than August 3 for Fall” … And it’s almost that time.

Any news/update from anybody so far?

Hi, I applied to Tech with mech engineering and also got waitlisted since 6/15. My gpa is 3.62 and math/sci gpa is 3.7. Up until now, I’m still on the waitlist and losing hope as it gets closer and closer to Aug 3.

I think if I get rejected, I might as well stay at GSU and retake Calc 2/3 as I got Bs in those. Also, is there a deadline for documents for Spring 13 transfer?

I’m also asian if that even matters (dont think it does).

I called ga tech’s admission office a few days ago because uga offered me a room that had opened up and I wanted to know if my status had changed before signing my uga housing contract (now, if I get into tech I’ll have to pay a $300 cancellation fee to uga…)

I didn’t learn much new, but I was told nothing will really happen with the wait list until august 1st. That’s the deposit deadline for the the people who were accepted as transfer students. The counselor said that once they know for sure who is and isn’t coming, they will reevaluate each student on the wait list and accept as many as they can. They also said that slots open up by major. So basically, everyone on the wait list needs to have someone in their major who was accepted say no to ga tech’s offer. Fun stuff…

(also, this isn’t verbatim. just my interpretation of what the counselor said)

dngolladay, thank you for the info, that really gives me hope  Btw the cancellation fee is ridiculous though…

ty for the information man.

Well, what is everybody’s major here? I’ll start by saying mine is Electrical Engineering.

I applied for mechanical engineering

I hope everyone here who couldn’t get our wish have a Bright*future without G-tech. especially who applied Mech-engineering like me.
Btw, we still have 3 days to end our dream, or apply Spring.

I feel you franklam, its crazy, time is almost here where chances are low…this is pretty sad…Well I been feeling pretty sad this whole summer cause of this!

Meh, this has been a real bummer. At the transfer session, was told that if the minimum gpa was achieved (overall and in m&s) the acceptance was practically guaranteed. Dissapointed at the moment, probably because I just googled college waitlist chances but also because I may not have made it into my program. It would feel foolish to go anywhere else but tech for engineering if I live in Atlanta. Wondering if those waitlisted do have a reasonable chance of acceptance. Hopeful but not terribly optimistic considering the radio science from tech since being waitlisted.

@Olala12 yeah…so what major are you waitlisted on?
