Being on Georgia Tech's Transfer Wait List

If you log into buzzport and look towards the lower left, their should be a link near application status that says admissions letter (or something to that effect).

Yeah, I got denied too.

They havent got back to me yet…probably before the end of the day they will, i forwarded it to like three different ppl.

And me too as an Electrical Engineer. Damn, seems like our summer blows then…Hell mines sure did and IDK what move to make lol. Gr1mace, do you know about RETP at SPSU? If you happen to know, let me know whats up…Cause this decision i make at this time of year, is the decision of my life…

for info on RETP, check out this chart - [Transfer Admissions Guidelines | The College of Engineering at Georgia Tech](http://www.coe.gatech.edu/content/transfer-admissions-guidelines)
Transfer admission in the spring is almost guaranteed to be less competitive than Fall. I guess the best thing to do is to see an adviser at SPSU or whatever school you’re going to. I think spring applications for tech started august 1st by the way.

Yeah those are the CORE classes, dont they make you think engineering courses?
Cause at Perimeter, they make us take 5 other engineering courses in order to complete RETP. You sure about Spring that its less competitive?

I have completed all those courses on that link already too. I wouldnt want to reapply then get rejected again though. If RETP at SPSU is same as Ga Perimeter, then I might as well do it at Perimeter since its cheaper too.

Today I got the same message, waitlist closed. After reading your inputs, makes me wonder if I should apply to tech with a less competitive major in the Spring. Also, they shouldn’t have created the wait list if they think no-one will get chosen from it.

I’d get a job and keep applying to tech if rejected in the spring…

Keep applying? Don’t you think that’s a waste of time? I think I should half start my RETP program and also RE-Apply for Spring Semester 2013, since there’s only like 5 engineering courses to be done. But it will take me like two semesters to get done, basically another year.

But keep applying even if you rejected every semester isnt such a good idea lol, for spring is ok, but to continue doing that is not such a good idea.

Anyways, what are you guys plan? Now that we all got rejected this semester :(

at uga I don’t have the RETP program as an option. I do intend to reapply for the spring, but I don’t know if I’ll apply to mech again. I emailed the office to see if they would tell me what the average admitted gpa for mech is. If its like 3.9, I don’t think my 3.7 will cut it and I’ll try a different major. So now I’m just waiting for that info (if they respond at all) before I reapply.

dngo Please keep us posted, I also really need that info  Im thinking about environmental engineering btw.

Also according to this [Transfer Admission | Admission](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Transfer Admission | Undergraduate Admission), my Fall classes won’t matter as the document deadline is Oct 1 or am I missing something??

Another opportunity would be applying for summer transfer. Or is it impossible to get in summer classes at tech??

robwadeson, your fall classes won’t count for spring admissions decisions, only classes taken this summer will be considered. You can apply for summer admission though, which may be less competitive. You should also apply for the spring admissions just in-case it ends up being less competitive, although I would not count on that. If I were you, I’d get a 4.0 this fall even if it means spending every waking our with your nose in a book or in the tutoring office.

They havent replied back to me yet…bah, i wonder what happened to everybody who participated in this thread…

I haven’t received a response from my email about the average accepted gpa for mech engineers. I don’t know if that’s the kind of information that they don’t want to release, but it would be nice to at least get a generic statement letting me know that they can’t tell me anything. Oh well, if I don’t get anything in the next day or two, I’ll send them another email.

Since somebody asked to see the response, here is the relevant part of the email:

"At this point, we do not have average GPA information broken down by major. We saw nearly a 15% increase in transfer applications for the Fall 2012 term over the previous fall semester, making for an extremely competitive applicant pool in all majors for transfer admission this year.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to predict or “chance” admission as decisions will vary greatly depending on the strength of the competitive applicant pool. Our transfer admission decisions are made based on a review of the coursework students have taken and how well they have done in that coursework (both Overall and combined Math/Science GPAs) relative to the entire applicant pool for that major and the enrollment capacity for that major and term. We are looking for students who have maximized their transferable coursework at another institution and who have done well in that coursework."

To me, this was actually quite helpful in a not so encouraging way. It sounds like having more credit hours, especially ones relevant to your major, is part of admission considerations. Unfortunately, I’ll only be a sophmore this year and ga tech doesn’t take many of uga’s engineering credits

best luck to you guys, guess i will reapply and also start on retp ffs!

Hi, I know this thread is really old, but maybe someone can answer my question. I’ve been hearing rumors that Southern Poly is ending their participation in the RETP program after this school year and I’ve been calling/emailing SPSU’s RETP coordinator, but she’s never responded. Does anyone know if SPSU is continuing this program after this school year?

@ Chedshot. I’m pretty sure it’s ending in 2013. I asked J Williamson, one of the academic advisors back in Aug, whether it was ever too late to apply for RETP. She replied, “… It will only be too late once RETP is completely phased out at SPSU which should be approximately 2 years from now.”(So I’m guessing fall of 2013). I know that doesn’t give you an exact date, but maybe it will help.

I thought Georgia perimeter has a transfer admission guarantee program? If it’s “guaranteed” then how did all of you get waitlisted by Tech? Or did you guys not register for TAG?

I was actually considering GPC but only if a transfer to Tech is absolutely guaranteed. Can I do this?

@chedshot : here is what Mr. Gary Bush, director of admission office, responded to me couple months when I asked him the RETP’s requirement since the RETP requirement is quite easier than SPSU’s :
"We do not participate in the RETP program.
Once we started offering Engineering degrees, we stopped the RETP program.
Students attend SPSU, because they want an engineering degree from SPSU.

You must meet the admission requirements for SPSU, not the minimums needed for the RETP program."

@daivinhtran1993: Thank you so much for your response! Yeah, I suppose it makes sense for SPSU to do that. I guess they want to be known as “an engineering university that rivals georgia tech” rather than “the lackluster institution where georgia tech dropouts/those who don’t get in go.” No disrespect to SPSU, but they have gotten that kind of reputation over the years. Thanks again for your response.

@Jtnomoney : Well since the RETP program is mentioned on SPSU’s academic catalog for the 2012-2013 school year, it will probably end after the spring semester. So anyone who wants to continue the program but doesn’t graduate in spring may have to transfer after the summer.
