Hokay, so my top schools are Stanford and every Ivy League school EXCEPT Princeton, Yale and Dartmouth.

My SAT 2 Math 2C was 660 (but I have AP Calc), and SAT 2 US History 630 (but I got a 4 on the AP test), oh yeah and i got like a 480 in Spanish, but w/e they only look at your highest scores, and I'm taking another one anyway. , I plan to take the English Lit SAT 2 soon.

I'm taking the SAT again, but so far its 670 math, 700 verbal, 740 writing
33 ACT.

My main Extracurric is probably Boy Scouts, where I'm an Eagle Scout, and I'm a pretty good writer, so I hope my essays will outweigh any and all defiencies.

I'm just not sure, should I worry more about the SAT or the SAT 2s? And my low Spanish SAT 2 really bugs me, although I never had honors Spanish in high school, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

SAT II scores are not going to keep you out of any school. Your ACT score is GREAT. If Stanford accepts the ACT then don't even bother taking the SAT again. I definitely recommend taking the English Lit SAT II. A 660 on the Math 2C is not gonna kill you, especially if you maintain an A in your AP Calc class.

thing is, ACT gave me an 8 on the essay, but the SAT gave me a 12

Don't worry about it. Write a good application essay (you're clearly capable) and do well on your Lit SAT II.

Beyond the Ivies, I think I'd have a good shot at U Chicago, and hopefully a shoo in for somewhere like BC or Georgetown

the SATIIs may hurt if you are applying as a major in X and your SATII score isnt in the 700s. they wont get you into a school or have a school reject you. IMO, it hurts when your scores are bellow average, and many other applicants have scores that are 100 points better.

try the mathIC. i think it is easier to get in the low 700s on it than the 2C, but harder to get an 800 (dont ask me how it works like that).

my US History SAT 2 was low, but I got a 4 on that AP. I don't see how an SAT 2 can be weighted more heavily than an AP, thats retarded. Someone told me they thought that APs are less impressive bc you have an entire class that prepares you for them and SAT 2s are on your own. Thats complete B.S. Plenty of people take APs without taking the classes, SAT 2s are supposed to be taken after a specific class anyways, and if those arguments aren't good enough, then there are tutors you can hire.

Also, I'm not applying to any engineering schools or science or math majors, just general colleges of arts and sciences, so I don't think I have it that bad.

Plus, I'm Cuban American (half Cuban half Caucasian) so I think thats a major plus for me. Realistically, I think I might have good shots at Brown or Columbia. An Eagle Scout in my troop was contacted by Brown, and they pretty much told him Eagle Scout was a major plus in him getting in, because they get so few.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but who isn't?

But anyway, Stanford strikes me as the kind of school that's interested in your essay and personal characteristics more than anything else.

To illustrate, my cousin, top 5% of his class, 1540 SAT, got into Yale, rejected from Stanford. He wasn't that good of a writer, and he had pretty generic ECs (Key Club, Student Council, NHS)

You're dreaming. the SATIIs will keep you out. Your SATI and ACT are unexceptional as are your ECs. Forget Stanford and the like.

whatev i'm retaking the SAT, only took it once

APs arent a factor in admissions, but SATIIs are. You can apply to Stanford and get in without taking any APs. If you dont take 2 (or 3 dont remember) SATIIs they wont read your application, unless you indicate that you are taking the tests in November for EA and by December or January for RD. Hence, a poor SATII can keep you out of a college. Colleges want to see consistancy. Prez fo chem club + 5 on AP chem test + 800 on chem SATII + internship in chemistry + saying chem is your prospective major paint a picture that you are love chemistry and want to study it. if you have all that, but a mediocre SATII score (which you can retake if you had a bad day, but you cannot redo APs) it puts a blemish in the picture. SATIIs can also say something about the quality of teaching at your school. Homeschooled students are asked to take extra SATIIs to show that the quality of education the parent is giving is sufficient. They can also show that a school that offers 0 AP classes still teaches students subjects at a high level (shown by 800s on SATIIs.) Also, a 4 on APUS is pretty easy to get. The first day of my class, the teacher told us that we could all get 3s without any preparation. Furthermore, the US SATII is considered one of the easier ones (or so i have heard).
