Ok, so in early April I sent Berkeley a mailed letter to let them know that I am not taking one of my previously planned elective classes (not required for major or IGETC) in spring quarter, but that I am taking another elective with the same amount of units instead.

I just reviewed my Conditions of Admission and the old, previously planned course shows up as a course I have to complete, while the one I'm taking right now does not...

Was my letter not received???

I already sent my assigned Cal admissions counselor an email about this.

My admission shouldn't be in jeopardy due to this issue, right?
The course is not required, I'm taking a different course with the same amount of units AND I informed them. Do I still have to be worried?

Hey, I’m in the same boat. I think as long as you email your admissions officer and explain it, it’s fine.

Btw, did you send in your SIR already? Right now I’m holding off on it until I hear back from my admissions officer because if I accept the contract then basically I’m telling them I WILL have the class that I dropped finished. Maybe I’m just being paranoid at this point though lol.

Redooooooooo! You cheered me up so much with your comment! I guess they didn’t read or put in the updated info about our coursework into the system yet. So glad I’m not the only one this is happening to!

@deanza: I made the class change mid March, so I just updated my UC application online and emailed an admissions officer about it who said all I need to do is update the change online.

well we cant change it online anymore soooo…any other ideas? :D

i think the whole January Update for ccc’s on the quarter system is just ridic. we shouldnt have to put what courses we think were guna take in spring when winter quarter hasnt even started, and even before the course schedule comes out for spring!!!

Does your conditions of admission specifically say this:

…in addition you must:

complete the following specific course(s): your spring semester courses listed here one by one

I’m trying to figure out if they just took everyone’s spring semester schedule and simply copied those courses on here, or if they are dead serious that we should complete them.

I dropped a CS course, which is not required, but “recommended” for my major. I’m about to send an explanation to my admissions officer, but am extremely worried how it will affect me.

on the same boat as you redo and deanzatransfer - i signed up for completely different electives than what i originally had stated. i already e-mail my advisor because she wouldn’t answer her phone. i don’t think it’s a big deal as long as we still have 60 units and all our pre-reqs/IGETC done. if you guys don’t hear anything i’ll update you on what my advisor says…hopefully it wont be an issue.

I’ll keep you guys updated too. @redo: I totally agree with you that it is ridiculous for us quarter system transfers not to have a chance to update the application after the end of March, when our classes start in April!
It’s also not like I didn’t inform them of my coursework changes immediately… I sent a signed letter to the Office of Undergrad Admissions during the first week of April! This is a bit frustrating. But as long as we only changed up electives, it shouldn’t be a big deal.

At the end of March, I sent them a letter about a class I had dropped in the beginning of the Spring semester and it doesn’t show up on my “classes to complete” section. It was an 8 week class that I would have already been done with so I’m assuming they received my letter. If your class is showing up on there, I would definitely contact them.

seriously…I wanna send in my SIR already!! why do decisions have to come out on friday? I think we might be lucky if we even get a response on monday.

I planned on taking Differential Equations this spring quarter, but I couldn’t get into any of the classes. I updated that I would try to take it during summer on the Berkeley Transfer Update page around mid April and I emailed the administrator yesterday about this.

I think we are safe as along as the courses are not required for admissions. For me, differential equations is a course required for my major but not a prereq for transfer admission.

I’m an EECS major and dropped a CS course that is consdered “recommended” but not REQUIRED for admissions. I have completed all “required” courses. I’m hoping they simply copied everyone’s spring schedule and just put it on there as one of the conditions.

The reason I believe this might be true is because they have put CHEM 1A as one of my required conditions (it is CLEARLY NOT - at least for Berkeley - I’ve fullfilled their requirement ALREADY with another course: Physics-optics/modern physics). I was taking CHEM 1A only to fullfill UCLA and UCSD’s requirements!

That’s why I’m hoping there is some wiggle room here. keeps fingers crossed
