my friend is looking into applying to the college of engineering at berkeley (materials engineering) but is afraid that the increased competition for the engineering college will kill his chances of getting in. Exactly how big of a difference in selectivity is there between the college of engineering and the college of letters and science?

I don’t know if Berkeley does admissions like a school in my state, but here the humanities college is much easier to get into, but admission doesn’t make it any easier to get into the college of engineering than if you were applying from a different university altogether.

There is a fair difference I think, so it may hurt his chances. It is possible to transfer in from L&S though.

Stats for enrolled students in different colleges.
Acceptance rate in the COE is in the teen. Acceptance rate L&S is in the mid 20.
Huge difference.

wow great stats, thanks

Kind of strange that Environmental Design has the lowest avg. for SAT scores.

Not that strange.
Stats wise
Cornell Engineering > Cornell Arts&Science >>>>> Cornell Old Macdonald Ag school.
Berkeley Eng + Chem > Berkeley L&S >>>> Environmental Design.

For every Ravenclaw, there’s a Hufflepuff. =)

nicely put

yeah…and gryfinddor is L&S.

lol :)

I saw the statistics for each college on a Berkeley site a long time ago. I believe the acceptance rate for COE was 18-19% (with around 15% for BioE, EECS, and Undeclared Engineering) and L&S was around 24%. Natural Resources was the highest, it was around 30% or so.

And Slytherin is Haas.

nah slytherin is COE… how many people do you think understand potions?

how bout college of Chemistry? whats the acceptance rate for that?

see page 25

WAIT WHAT. 38%? that high???

can someone post the acceptance rate for the different colleges?

I told you look at page 25

This year, college of engineering admissions rate is 13%.

Note that selectivity within the College of Engineering varies by major.

This year it was reported that it is 9% for COE.
