Berkeley Frats etc

I am a spring admit for the coming year, will I be able to join frats or will I have to wait til my senior year to do any of that?

or another way of putting it...

how will being a spring admit affect my chances of joining a frat or other on campus groups?

I ask because it seems like everyone says to enjoy your time at a UC you really need to come out of your shell a bit, and at my ccc I didn't so I figure why not try now?

thanks....

Maybe we’ll be in the same fraternity lol.

I’m also a spring admit. I went to Berkeley a few days ago and spoke to the student services office and a few kids about this. Apparently, we can actually join fraternities in the fall as well as in the spring. I’ll (probably) be living up at Cal in the fall because I’m taking courses there anyway.

In a sense, rushing/pledging in the fall is the best way to go for us because:

football season is in the fall and the transition would (prob) be easier.

we will be taking less classes than most students (being spring admits), thus giving us more time to devote to the fraternity.

You can also rush in the spring too. As for the fraternities themselves, it really is up to each one of them if they are okay with allowing a transfer/spring admit into it.

I don’t think it will be an issue for either of us though. We should be fine to join a fraternity whenever.

good info, ty… I was heavily considering moving up there in the fall, but decided I’d just move back in with my parents for the period and save up money for spring etc…

For sure, good idea. I live so close that it wouldn’t make much of a difference for me. Good luck man!
