Berkeley Spring Transfer -- fall rush?

Hi guys.. So I was admitted to Berkeley for Spring 2012, which was a tiny bit disappointing but I was excited just to be admitted. However, because of this I am actually considering UCSB, which may be a better fit for my kind of personality and lifestyle, and the proximity and location of the campus is beyond ideal. But it's Berkeley, and I've visited many times before and liked it, and it clearly trumps UCSB in the prestige/academic/investment-in-my-future department. My decision is still not made, but I have only a few days left to SIR, so...

I'm wondering if anyone out there knows whether Spring transfers are able to rush in Fall 2011? I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere, or anyone who has asked this. I am concerned that I will not enjoy Berkeley unless I am involved in Greek life... I am quite a partier and to be honest, quite stereotypically UCSB. I want my only two years of legitimate college to be as enjoyable as possible. However, spring rush is exponentially different than fall and many of the upper tier sororities do not even participate in spring rush. I have friends in several of the sororities I'd like to be in (none of them have any idea though), so if anyone can give me an answer, it would be MUCH appreciated. This actually has a lot of weight in my decision, as I am more concerned about my happiness and college experience than prestige.

Thanks so much for everyone's time!!

so…the only reason you’d be interested in Berkeley is the prestige? Even though you say you’re not, that’s all I’m getting from your post. Go to UCSB. You’ll be happier, and like you said yourself it’s a way better fit. No need to fit a square in a circle if yadida.
And from what I’ve read here and there, you’re not going to be a student of Berkeley until Spring 2012. Therefore, no you can’t rush during Fall 2011. Someone spank me if I’m wrong.

:)

Ack. Sorry, I don’t know why I included so many details in the original post, I seem heavily biased there – I just mean that I’m not the best at studying although I get it done and that a more “cutthroat” environment intimidates me slightly. I also enjoy having a good time and would prefer to be closer to home, however I recognize Berkeley for merits more than “prestige” and I do think that I would be very happy at Berkeley. Regardless, thank you, but I was and am not asking for advice on this matter.

I was asking if anyone knew whether this was possible. As sound as your logic seems, I knew freshmen spring admits that for some reason I thought were able to rush in the fall, however they do get the benefit of the FPF program… I just wanted to know. I don’t need to be in a sorority, I just thought it might be fun at Berkeley. But, thank you for the CalGreeks referral form, I guess I should’ve just done that initially.

Yeah that FPF program has them enrolled in the University’s “extension” program…so they’re technically going to Berkeley during Fall. Sucks that the Spring transfer admits can’t do the same thing.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do though and you should report back here on what they say on the whole Spring admit issue for people in your situation in the future!
