Berkeley online orientation

Hey so I was doing the online orientation and I was picking out some classes that I am looking at taking in the fall. The problem is every single class is waitlisted. ***. Do they provide room for transfers to get into these classes because it seems like we are all going to get screwed and wont be able to get into any of our classes that we need for our major.

tisk, tisk, tisk… should have gone to UCLA

Wait to you have to register for classes, Mr. UCLA!

I think they open up more spaces for transfers but I’m not certain. Can anyone verify this?

Koreanbbq- how do I get to the ‘online orientation?’. And yes, more spaces will be added to the courses once CalSo starts. You might not be able to get into any other than Major courses…(i.e. if you are attempting to double major or minor, you will probably find the same difficulty in registering)

Are you talking about TeleBEARS? I got an email about it today but when I checked my appointment dates it’s telling me I have to wait til CalSO.

yeah like all the upp division classes that i picked out from my major are all full with a long waiting list

Oh man, if everything is already on waiting list, then I am screwed. My CalSO date is not until the 18th…

Anyone know how impacted/popular anthropology is at Berkeley?

Wait, can you sign up for classes already with online orientation?

koreanbbg, whats ur major? my major is pretty popular and there are lots of spaces open

Haha, don’t freak out. Their are four numbers you should pay attention to when you’re looking for a seat in a class: Limit, Enrolled, Seats available, and Waitlist. Here’s what I’ve come to understand about the whole situation:

Limit: max # of students a class can take
Enrolled: current # of students enrolled
Seats Available: Limit - Enrolled
Waitlist*: Usually, the reserve list for classes that maxed out the Limit.

The online schedule of classes ([Home Page - Online Schedule Of Classes](http://schedule.berkeley.edu/?PageID=index.html)) shows you all four numbers, but the course planning segment of our online orientation only shows us the numbers for Seats Available and Waitlist (and not the Limit and Enrolled). This part is probably what’s throwing you off. Whatever # appears in the Seats Available part is how many spots are still open for the class. As long as the Waitlist numbers aren’t greater than or equal to the Seats Available, the class isn’t full.

*I’m assuming they put current Cal students on the Waitlist because there are multiple phases for being able to enroll, and priority goes to the major students for the class. Also, I think they’re purposely leaving some spots open for incoming students (or else, we’ll never have a chance to add). I’m thinking the first phase includes major priority enrollment + transfer enrollment, and the second phase of Tele-bears (July 26) is when just about everyone else gets to enroll into a class.

I hope this helped a bit.
