Berkeley Schedule of Classes (I'm a bit confused...)

I'm trying to pick classes I plan to register at CalSO next Thursday, but the schedule of classes is a bit confusing...

For some classes like Psychology 160, the schedule says:

"Limit:225 Enrolled:104 Waitlist:140 Avail Seats:121"

AND

"Seats have been reserved for:

Instructor Approval; a Class Entry Code is required to enroll in these seats. (Open)

Students with a major of Psychology and Students with a class level of Junior or Sophomore or Senior (Open)

Students with a registration status of new and Students with a class level of Junior (Open)

Open seating (Open)"

There are more people on the wait list than there are available seats, but apparently the course is open? Also, why are people on the wait list, when the enrollment limit has not even been reached yet?

Can someone clarify what this means? Would I be able to register for this course?
I believe transfers are classified as "Students with a registration status of new and Students with a class level of Junior." Are seats really reserved for us?

I had the same question!

I still can’t figure this out.

Does “Instructor Approval; a Class Entry Code is required to enroll in these seats” mean everyone needs instructor approval or the people who get it have first priority?

If there is a prereq for a class and we fufilled an equivalent at CC, we will we still have trouble registering for the class or will we be cleared by an adviser at CalSO (we should bring our unofficial transcript)?

Good thing we’ll probably figure everything out at CalSO!

I’m fairly certain that the # for available seats despite a long waitlist is because those seats are reserved for transfers/late freshman. I went to UCSB the past 2 years and the # of spaces for continuing students to register for next fall classes is always lower than usual because of this reason.

If it says Instructor Approval that means everyone needs approval, and the upper div students or the students that have declared the major get first dibs…i think :D

and hopefully you’re right, ziater!
