I am a member from the So Cal Berkeley transfer alliance program. I don't know if the this thread was needed but I have seen a lot of people ask questions about the TAP program for Berkeley so I thought it would be best to resolve any questions right here. I may not know all the answers but I would be glad to help if I can. So ask any question and I will do my best to respond!

is it too late to join TAP for fall 08 applicants?

What community colleges offer TAP to Berkeley? How long does it take for a student to become a member? One quarter/ semester? Certain fulfillment of classes? Is Fall 08 the only application period? Is Haas a part of TAP?

Yes it would be to late to join for fall 08 Torrancecali. Generally the TAP program is looking for members that are CCC freshman. I joined the TAP program during my second year at community college but unit wise I was still a freshman. They want to be able to work with a TAP participant for around 2 years while they are at Community College.

I believe there are 7 community colleges in southern California that are TAP program participants (Cerritos, Mt. SAC, ELACC, West LA College, El Camino, Pasadena, and Santa Monica college). There are 19 community colleges in Nor Cal that participate but I do not know which ones they are besides Diablo Valley college. Most of the CCC's that are TAP members have a decent sized underrepresented student or educationally disadvantaged student population. There is no specific time it takes to join the program all you do is turn in an application. But there is quiet a bit of paper work that needs to be filled out to join but once you turned your application in and it has been approved your in. However there is no application for you to find, the TAP coordinators seek you out instead of you seeking them out so it is not something that your everyday student gets into. It is a very small program compared to UCLA and they do not accept very many students. I believe there is only around 60 members in the entire state of CA. If you are looking to apply fall 08 it is way to late they are looking for people who will transfer in 09 and 2010.

as for all 08 applicants, get off of berkeley's peaNUTS and get over it. i dont know about this new program berkeley is offering but for the tap that i know of, you need to poor and underpresented.

you dont just go sign up, they would have come after you. so if you are applying for fall 08 get over it. if you are applying for 09, dont mind me, continue with the questions.

Pretty much what academic08 said is correct. The program is made for high achieving low income and educationally disadvantage students. In other terms you need to have a high GPA and leadership qualities. Be low to middle income range and be a first generation college student or a minority student. I was asked to join the Berkeley Transfer Alliance Program by a Berkeley rep that happened to be a TAP coordinator I did not ask her about the program. And again it is to late to join for fall 08

getting into berkeley w/o tap is very possible. i got in with a 3.4. so don't panic if its too late.

kevintech, what was your major? What is the lowest GPA that you have heard of getting into Haas, if you know?

the major i got into was microbial biology. haas will be more competitive, but its not as impossible as people think.
