Hi,

I'm attending USC this fall, because for unrelated reasons my parents did not want me to spend my freshman year at cal, although that was the school I wanted to go to. (was accepted into both).

They are however fine with me transferring after a year, and I was wondering what I need to do in order to keep that a possibility, if at that time I still want to. I know that it is difficult to transfer after only one year, and from a 4-year as well, so I am looking for info. here.

I do have many AP credits (score of 3 or more on 5 tests, took 4 more this semester) (according to http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/faq/ap.html- ends up being 37.3 semester units)

and I don't mind working my butt off for a high gpa.

Thanks

Even with a high gpa, the problem is that CCC,UC, and CSU transfers will have priority over you.

I transferred from another UC as a sophomore transfer but its hard nonetheless from a private. Get a great GPA, and essays but I sent in a cover letter explaining why I was leaving my school to go to Cal. They only accept sophomore transfers if there is an extraneous reason why you need/want to go to Cal.

think about this way. If you don’t get the priority, the decision is based on need and want. If you are attractive to the admission officer, you will be fine. Nothing’s impossible. Even if people say the chances are slim, some people do manage to get into Cal from non-CC. remember it’s “need based,” not something required by law as it is for CC students. They have to admit some percentage of CC students even if they don’t want to. I think high GPA in USC with California residency would them want to admit you with passion!! :)

hmm thank you for the help. Yeah I guess I’m just trying to figure out what my chances are.

ill be pretty sad if i do not get accepted as a transfer since i was as a freshman.
and yess…california resident, national merit (not sure if that even helps) and ill shoot for the best gpa possible.

I am going to bump this because responses seem to be mixed. With a high GPA would i be likely to get in? Keeping in mind that they did accept me as a freshman, though I don’t think that matters.

with a high gpa you would be more likely to get in. Just realize your priority is low but people have managed to do it before.
