Transferring after one year, look at HS GPA?

If you transfer from a CC to a UC after one year, do they look at your high school grades? I heard that because you only have 1 year of college experience, they'll look at your HS GPA/SAT's to get a better academic overview. Is this true?

Also, I know that having AP credits helps a lot if you want to transfer in a year. I haven't checked if 90 quarter/60 semester units in a year is doable/realistic without them. Anyone know if its possible? I'm worrying because I don't have any AP credits yet, though I'm taking 4 tests this May.

They only look at your high school stuff if you're transferring as a sophomore... meaning you'll be transferring with around 30 units not 60 (which would make you in junior standing) ... I don't know if UC's offer a sophomore transfer... I know USC does..

If you're goin for 60 units they don't care about your high school grades... I don't think you can do 60 units in a year... but you can come damn close if you work your butt off. Perhaps it can be done with sufficient AP's..

You can also try attending more than one CC simultaneously... because of the unit cap per semester... I think it's either 19 or 16 units..

wow finishing 60 units is kind of a stretch unless you do some summer classes. that would mean finishing 30 units or more per semester which is like 10 classes. im taking 8 classes right now - no work - and the amount of busy work people give is slowly drowning me.

Many of my friends and I who don't work have been able to handle 20+ unit semesters. It really depends on the teachers and the classes. For social sciences/language classes it should be no problem if you really want to do it and put work into it. But if you are a science major, I would recommend not trying to transfer in 1 year

Especially if you predict fires are coming about.

Ah yea, I forgot to mention that if I decide on transferring after a year, I won't work. I'll sign up for summer classes as well.

And thankfully I'm a Business major so I don't have too many prereqs. I feel sorry for Engineers though!

People usually take 14 units (about 4 classes) in a regular semester, 3-5 in a short-term (summer or spring) semester. I consider 18 a lot (max at my school unless you get permission from the office, equivalent to like 5 classes), so you'll have to take even MORE than the average person to get upto 60 in a year.

Summer:
8 units?

Fall: (in which you apply)
18 units

Winter: (if your school has a Winter intersession):
8 units

Spring:
18 units

total only comes to 52.

I am transferring with only a year and a half of schooling with barely enough units (like 62).

I think it's pretty unrealistic (for me). You're going to need AP credits to back you up so that your year at CC will be a little easier for you. It's especially unrealistic if you want to also include TAP in a year.

Why feel sorry for Engineering majors? They want to major in it, so that's what they're going to have to do.

I have a friend who did 35 units a semester. I'm not joking either, he managed a 4.0 too. Also during winter I believe he did 16 or 18 units, it was ridiculous, but he pulled it off

Taking 8 classes??

dang I'm only taking 4 and I can't handle it. My anatomy and calculus classes, as well as my social life :) are really bringing me down.

well you dont want to be too optimistic with yourself and end up doing poorly in your semester and messing up your chances ; )

whoa 35 units seems pretty crazy. that must be around 12 classes.

bobo I don't think they look at HS GPA. I am actually planning to transfer after 1 year also, and I only need to take about 7 courses altogether to get about 68 units or so. But then again my major is poli sci and there's only a few pre reqs if AP's are added in there. I think I'm going to somehow pull off all the prereqs by the end of fall

It was only doable because some of them were online classes, so he was able to fit all those units into his schedule though. So if you have the discipline for online classes, that is a good option to load up on units

i actually applied as sophmore transfer because i took a semester off after HS, but only a couple ucs offered applications to sophmores...so i could only apply to davis and irvine. UCD already asked for my HS transcript, SAT & AP scores a while ago, so im thinking they are using it for consideration. haven't gotten notice from either school yet, but im planning on doing another year at CC anyways because i want to go to LAor SD.

if you have 60 units by then they won't lookat ur hs record b/c u will be transfering at a junior level not sophomore level. (which is about 30 units at CC)

if you do plan to do it in 1 year, suggest u to applied to two different CC or take some online classes.

We aren't really looking at your grades and GPA on your high school transcript. As a lower division transfer student you must meet Freshman admissions requirements by the time you graduated high school. We ask for your high school records to verify your eligibility; this includes the required ACT/SAT exams.
