Ahoy. As a high school senior, I'm looking at every possible scenario in all the land. I'm curious: I know if I go to a CCC for 2yrs it greatly (like woah) increases my chances of getting into UCB or UCLA, which aren't that bad now. All I ever hear about is transfering after 2yrs. Can I go to a CCC for 1yr and apply to UCB and UCLA as a sophomore w/ awesome essays and a 4.0 college GPA after only one year? If so, what would my chances be? Would my chances be better/worse with the 1yr option at a school like UCLA or a private like USC? Thanks in advance!

Your GPA from a CCC does not transfer. When you transfer, you will be in a sophomore standing.

Junior transfer applicants from CA community colleges are given priority. You need to accumulate 60 semester units. Some people do this after one year by using AP credits, or taking a ton of units, etc.

The private will probably be a better shot because the UCs are geared towards junior transfers.

nikkei325i - I know my GPA wouldn't transfer. I wanted to know if I could transfer to a UC as a sophomore after 1yr at a CCC and if so how much harder it would be to get in as opposed to someone that goes to a CCC for 2yrs and applies as a junior.

gabew42 - "You need to accumulate 60 semester units." So there's NO way to transfer to a UC w/ less than 60 units?

gabew42 is right, you need 60 semester units to transfer. No, you cannot transfer with less than 60. That's the uc policy. However, if you have enough ap credit and take enough classes, you probably can transfer in one year. i read somewhere on this forum where highschoolda said he knew people who transfer in one year because of all the ap credit. I think it would be harder to transfer in one year, because not only do you have to complete 60 units, but you have to complete many of your major requirements in order to be competitive when applying. Major such as biochem requires a lot of classes to take. Its probably easier if you have a major (such as history) that requires less classes to take. For private schools, many do not require 60 units. You can probably transfer in one year. For usc, after 30 units (i think), they don't really place as much empahsis on your high school record, sat.
