Berkeley vs. UCSD ?

I'm a psychology major and have no idea which school I want to go to! SD is wonderful in every sense...but...Berkeley has the name and I'm not sure if it would be smart to give that chance up...blah..help?

Thanks :D

If you're concerned about the name recognition, employers and grad schools recognize UCSD just about as much as Berkeley, especially in that department. It's just the general public that recognizes Berkeley more, and even then it's really not much of a difference.

I'm not sure how good Berkeley's psychology department is, but if it's very well-respected, go for it.

Go where you like best, it's that simple. Opportunities will come of themselves at either campus, with hard work and diligence.

agh! im facing the same problem too! so have u made a decision yet?

go to Cal. picking SD over Cal makes no sense (unless you just totally love for SD for some reason and thus just can't pass SD up) or you got into the med scholars program or something like that.
I can understand people having a hard time deciding between Cal and UCLA but Cal vs. SD should be a no brainer

Wow, the most uninformed post ever. Try telling that to the numerous cross-admits who chose UCSD...

Have you made a choice yet, blueduckie?

johnstoops...youre lame

chessdude2 thats what ive been trying to tell other ppl but i dont think they get it =/

and by the way i picked sd over berkeley and i love it here and i would probably be miserable in cal right now....

Berkeley is too competitive and frankly a bit crowded(not saying SD isn't) and basically its near impossible to switch majors, let alone taking the proper courses to fulfill those requirements.

Engineering is even worse. It's not #2 for nothing. SD may not be as well known but it can definitely hold up on its own in terms of research spending and its science programs.

OHH EFFF YOU. Sorry for the bad post lol... i will make it good starting now.

I was in the same position as a lot of you. Berkeley or UCSD... oh the joy.. UCSD or Berkeley.

Ever take a look at the girls here? Triton eye my butt. I would say girls get triton eye... but not the other way around. I didn't much like the atmosphere of Berkeley. Don't worry about switching majors and such. I guess it depends on what you are studying. For amount of hot girls + 9th in computer science systems as opposed to not so hot girls and 2nd in computer science systems... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! You're going to pass up the women for a different top 10 spot?!. A top 10 spot is a top 10 spot. Those can play subjectively.

Yeah gracie06. SD is super duper awesome huh? (I might sound lame right now but it's really true.)

berkeley Chemistry or SD Pharmacological chem? pharmacy school later.

ohhh gosh. UCSD Skaggs school of pharmacy for the win. 6 Year program was it? That's nice <3

Actually you might consider Berkeley if you don't mind the time though.

No I haven't made a decision yet...I'm plannin on visiting UCSD this week and Cal next week...any other suggestions???

what is it with people thinking cal is hard? the students on average are smarter/more hard working, but the average gpa at cal is higher than at sd. check out thecampusbuddy.com for confirmation. and if there's no such thing as triton eye, there's no such thing as berkeley goggles either.

just because this is the sd forum doesn't mean people rooting for berkeley should get jumped on.

outside of CA, the only UCs that have much (if any) recognition are cal and la.

You could say that the converse is true, also. Find me a common Joe in CA who knows of all the 8 Ivies.

cenire, that's pretty much because of sports and you know it.

And like I said earlier, that "recognition" refers to the average person's recognition. UCSD has plenty of recognition among grad schools and employers across the country, and that's what matters most.
