Berkeley's CalSO

i believe that's called prison or a locker room.

ahahhaha, yeah...

Kell what places are you checking out off of craig’s list? I have absolutely no idea where I am going to live. Is the cal rental service any good, I’m thinking of signing up for that $20 deal.

Some places want to rent to only Cal students and those always post on CalRental. Although you may see the same listings on both CalRental and on Craigs, there will be the ones where the tenants only want Cal students.. and for that reason, CalRental may be worth it.

North vs South side:

My friend really wants me to live on the South side. Apparently the south side is more "ghetto" according to my friend, I think she meant the buildings are older and nastier haha. I dont think she means the people. the South is where the life's at and if you're hungry past 7pm, there will be places and things open.

North: you have to drive everywhere to get something. It's boring. Things close really early and there's a less college-town feel to it

... so my friend says.

Good info, I’m just hoping that I can find something cheaper on Calrental, otherwise rent is going to be a killer, yet it would still be cheaper than on campus housing…what’s the deal with that?
I’m going to the late June sesh of calso, it looks like it’s worth it (didn’t want to hijack the thread)

CalRentals is worth a try, but I really think Craigslist is going to be your best bet.

Ooh, I didn't know they were going to bring CalSO down to SoCal. It's going to be at El Camino College on June 16th! Awesome news especially 'cause I was starting to feel bad about not wanting to go all the way to Berkeley just for an orientation. :)

i wish i could go to that one.

the calSO office said the June 16th calSO was for invites only, mainly for students receiving pell grants.

I've heard that the So Cal CalSO is not recommended; it's best to go to Berkeley.

Oh yah, I forgot that's what it said on there (that's what I have).

Ideally, I'd like to go, but I can't go/don't have time because of work. Vacation requests and whatnot.

I'm going to June 8th CalSO...I've been trying to plan my classes out using the online schedule but I've noticed that a few of the classes I'm interested in are filling up, i.e. about 10 spots left. Anyone else worried about this?

Nothing to worry about, ucbhi. There are enough classes and enough requirements to fill that you really shouldn't worry. Most upper div classes (which transfers should be most concerned with) certainly won't fill up by June 8--I'm June 22, and I'm not even worried (after learning from counselors, etc.).

Hey gabe, you are like such an expert on Calso. How do you know so much?

Wrathletik, I am not an expert. I have, however, spoken to CalSO counselors (as I already said).

anyone going on the 29th? i'll be attending on that day

Do they have local CalSOs?

Whos going tomorrow?

They have a So Cal CalSO but it is not recommended.

Ha it was two posts above me. My bad. Thanks gabe.

I'm going tomorrow. Um...Does anyone know if it would be tacky if I wear my "Berkeley" t-shirt to CalSO?

"I'm going tomorrow. Um...Does anyone know if it would be tacky if I wear my "Berkeley" t-shirt to CalSO?"

Nah, ain't nothing wrong with a little golden bear pride. Oh yeah ucbhi, please meet a lot of people and get them to join our facebook group =)

Cool cuz it's the only one I have right now. But I don't wanna be the guy in an American flag jumpsuit on the Fourth of July :p
