Berkeley's rep, or lack thereof, on the east coast

You see what he meant? How could he see "thoughts" as a verb? Explain, I really don't get it.

Lol, you'll have to go back to the previous page. But we were talking about whether "thoughts" was a verb or a noun when used in the context of "My thoughts exactly."

Yes, I read it. I really, really don't get how you can see it as a verb. "My thoughts exactly" is a phrase where "thoughts" is clearly a noun...I don't get it.

people who major in english=annoying.

Malishka, read The Elements of Style.

"people who major in english=annoying."

Hahah, why is that Malishka31? I'm an English major and I'm not nitpicking people's posts.

Yeah, that phrase is wierd though. "Exactly" is an adverb right? and it modifies "thoughts" which is a noun. But I thought adverbs can't modify nouns?

EDIT:

I'm an electrical engineering major, lol. Though a while back, I thought about double majoring in both engineering and philosophy (who wouldn't want to hire an engineer who could solve problems AND write coherently?) but I now doubt that I can handle the workload. I also have about 30 philosophy books that I haven't touched since I began my engineering studies about 3 years ago.

Thank god I'm not an English major.

Now that I've compleatly ran this train of the tracks.

Okay, now I freely admit that my technical understanding of English is not at the level of many others on this site. However, "my thoughts exactly" is fairly acceptable in colloquial English.

So enough with this trainwreck.

That said, Berkeley is very well-known on the East Coast. But I must confess that I know Californians who couldn't place Brown on a map, so I suppose it's only fair.

"Yeah, that phrase is wierd though. "Exactly" is an adverb right? and it modifies "thoughts" which is a noun. But I thought adverbs can't modify nouns?"

My thought exactly.

HAHA.

Well, I live about an hour from Berkeley for the past 16 years and I've never heard of Berkeley until I enrolled into my CCC about 3 years ago!

It's amazing how people can remain completely oblivious to their surroundings.

OMG! Arguing on the internet is like competing in Special Olympics: sure, you may win, but in the end, you're still a retard.

Wow, you're so witty and original.

Just trying to get to your level--it's what we all should aspire to.

haha. that's jus the way i talk (re: maybe your friends was). had no idea it stuck out so much, i guess i'd better try to speak more correctly. Btw, "My thoughts exactly" is a not even a complete sentence, it's a colloquial phrase with no (thats right, lol)no verb.

haha, i don't care for OC ppl too much and this is why. OC ppl. actin as if they are smart when they're not and claimin to be from LA when they're not.

Dude chill it was just a discussion. Nothing to get all up in arms about.

yeahbi*ches,

Oh, what were the words of that wise sage?

Oh yeah, "Who's more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him?"

lol, not true. english is supposed to be a field of leading thinkers in our society -- a true humanities field. they don't pick on grammar and most of them can't spell the language anyways. haha, but however, this is definitely not what i saw in my english classes.

and it should be "people who claim to be their fine, smart, and rich=********"

Finally found the smiley I was looking for (in the FAQ section)...
