lol jk I have a few questions that have to do with different topics, so here they are:

How do you get to UCB from SFO SAFELY? I am VERY petite, and someone could easily kidnap me or my possessions. I was told I could take the BART to downtown berkeley (is that sketchy?) and take the bus or taxi from there.

What are some easy summer classes to take that fulfill my major of neurobiology, yet get me acquainted with the campus? For instance, can I take a language? I'll be starting at the first level.

Can we change the summer classes that we choose after we register (as freshman)? I'm sure you can as sophomore's and all that, but I already put a class down and I want to find out what to take from CalSO too.

Where's the best dining place to eat that uses meal points?

What are some sororities whose main emphasis is community service? Do they drink/party as well? Is that the general trend of ALL sororities?

Do most people go to SF in the summer session on weekends?

If parents come to CalSO, are they going to be with me the whole time? I didn't sign them up but I can change it.

BART at SFO is directly connected to the airport, so no biggie there. Once you arrive in Downtown Berkeley, it’s not too long of a walk to get to the dorms, but if it’s at night you might want to take a taxi, or figure out how to take the bus. If it’s during the day, I would just walk if I were you.

Yes, you can change your schedule during Phase II and during the adjustment period as well as a few weeks into the semester. You will learn more about this a CalSO.

There are 3 main DCs (dining commons) at Cal. Crossroads, Cafe 3, and CKC dining hall. Foothill/Northside used to have a buffet style DC but has since switched to being a la carte. The best one will depend on taste preferences. I think Crossroads has a nice variety from day to day. A lot of people say CKC has great food, but IMO it’s nothing special. Maybe it’s because I lived there my freshman year.

As far as I know, almost all sororities have some aspect of community service to them. Yes, some drink and party a lot, but there are also some that don’t do that.

I don’t think people go to SF anymore during the summer than they do during the school year. If people have time, money to burn, and people to go with, then they will probably go.

Parents will not be with you the whole time. They have a completely different program than you do. You will probably only meet with them for meals or at night.

No, parents will have their own separate program. You’ll probably see them for like 10 minutes throughout the whole day and a half.

Do Crossroads, CKC, and Cafe 3 have buffet style eating?

^Yes. You swipe with your ID and it deducts meal points from your account. You can either eat there and just sit and keep eating, or you can ask for a to-go box when you swipe, and they will charge you an extra 50 cents or something like that. You go in, fill up your box, and then walk out.

word on the street is, FH is changing back to buffet. aha

It can be sketchy late at night with BART. Check the bearwalk site and give them a call if you’re concerned.

I’m anticipating the buffet style at foothill, because I wouldn’t actually pay for a salad or fruit. I’d definitely eat it at a buffet style place (like this past summer), but I probably wouldn’t buy it separately.

As for changing your summer schedule, all you have to do is go to telebears and change it. I already changed my schedule once (you get a set number, but it is pretty high). It is really easy, and you can still change after you talk to advisors at CalSO (note that not all classes will be open at that time though).

All dc’s other then foothill have buffet-style eating, and I believe foothill will be returning to buffet next year as well

my one question for you:

can you describe yourself more? I am willing to chauffeur you from the airport in my big cargo van for free. You can even sleep the whole way home since you’re jet lagged cuz I have a sweet futon setup in the back. I’ll show you around the will answer your questions, let me know if you want to take me up on this offer.

jojomonkey:

ooh! the bearwalk thing is a GREAT idea! i hope they will do it for me even if i’m not a student there. i could probably show them my calso info or something and get it done. thank you so much.

jbtheunknown:

thanks for answering all those questions! btw were u the one who gave me the idea about the 1000 questions thing? lol ur info helped me a lot. most people write a bunch of stuff, and it’s unorganized and confusing. but i’ll keep your words in mind.

Lol yeah. No problem. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions, and I’ll see if I can answer them.

lol wait…u were the one who said to do the “1000” thing?

okay i have another question lmao

Don’t summer session student’s dorm in Unit 3? Because I got Unit 2, but then again, I have a minor disability that I listed, which you can PM me about.

Nope, says right here [Student Housing | Berkeley Summer Sessions](Student Housing | Berkeley Summer Sessions) that the summer session students are placed in Unit 2 this year.

CalSO, on the other hand, uses Unit 3.

yeah. that was me :)

and rider730’s right about housing.

And what exactly is your minor disability? I don’t think it would matter unless its severe …

Okay! Few! wipes forehead with back of my hand i thought i was getting some “special” treatment.

i messaged u helloall

do the UCs calculate your UC gpa for you? I remember doing it when I was junior, but I didn’t have to do it for the actual application. I was thinking about how my high school gpa was low, but they don’t even look at that. My sophomore and junior gpa was really high though for the UC gpa.

You just enter the courses and grades, the systems calculate for you.
