Does anyone know if you have to have an absolutely crazy amount of community service to get this scholarship? Also, do you know if it is mainly given to minority students? Just don't know if it's even worth applying.

Someone won from my school last year, but they did hundreds of hours through habitat, hospital volunteering, etc.

Basically, you need a crazy amount of hours and your SAT scores/transcript serve as a tie breaker.

I applied because the application only took like an hour.

psh not true...i have 1600 hours of legit well spent time on an ambulance, plus MUCHO leadership and other clubs...i didnt get the target scholarship and it was the same type of thing

wow. i have around 300 and was planning on applying for the best buy scholarship but not so sure anymore!!

what's the site for this? thanks

why not...i dont know how these things are chosen anymore

My son won a Best Buy scholarship in 2004. In my opinion (and as I told him) it's worth applying for b/c the application doesn't take that much work. You do have to have volunteer hours in addition to the usual outstanding academic record but I don't know if there is a cutoff for hours, and if they'd rather see you devoted to one serious cause or many.

I applied for it over Christmas break, the main reason being (what everyone else said) that it took minimal time.
