So I got my SAT scores this morning and they're truly awful.
My composite was a 2220, 800 CR, 740 W, 680 M
(I know that I can improve them, because I fell asleep and missed almost an entire math section and my practice tests had my M score at 750+. I just hadn't been sleeping blah blah blah it doesn't matter to admissions counselors and at the end of the day it's totally my fault.)

So petty excuses aside, I need two SATII's to apply ED to Columbia. My plan was to apply ED Columbia and EA UChicago. However, that would mean that I have to take SATII's in November, which would negate the possibility of taking the SATI again before the deadline. So do I retake the SATI in November and forget ED, apply with the 2220, or what?

Also, in the way of UChigago, is there a substantial advantage for applicants applying EA? Should I put it off and apply RD with improved scores?

P.S. I visited both of these schools recently and I love them. I really do. I know that my chances aren't great no matter what I do with my SAT score, but I still want to give it my all.

My SAT score is more painful. I went to the bathroom, listened to some random kid about a reading answer, then changed a correct answer I had. I ended up getting a 690 cr/700m/700 w. how’s that for bad luck?

Your math score obviously looks mediocre compared to your other subsections, but your composite is still well within their range. I’d say apply with the 2220 and take the SAT II’s

It’s a 3.74. When I was a junior I had to take care of my little sister because my father was so out of it and we were without heat in the winter and homeless for a little while and that took a lot out of it. I’m debating putting something about that in the additional information section of the Common App, but I haven’t decided.

I don’t know. We’ll see. If I can word it so that I don’t come off as if I’m asking for them to let me in because they feel bad for me or something I’ll put it in.
But with the weak GPA, should I just retake it and skip EA/ED?

I’m as concerned about my GPA as I can be without having a mental breakdown, trust me. But what do you think I should do as far as applying ED/EA?

Will it help when I send my SAT2’s? I’m taking the Math 2 in November and practice tests I’ve taken indicate that it’ll be a 750+, so would that make up for it?

Chicago and Columbia are my top choices too. I say forget about ED/EA and get all your scores up. I want to hear from others about the advantages of applying early at Chicago. They might not even be significant. Good luck!

I think the acceptance rate for Chicago is in the low to mid teens, whereas the overall acceptance rate is 8.8%. I’m not sure if there’s necessarily an advantage since generally more qualified students apply early and chicago’s early policy is non-restricting and non-binding.

Thanks brm114341, and good luck to you too!
Recommendations will be great, essays will be (hopefully great but at least) good and ec’s are pretty good (lots of service, leadership, but no big national awards or anything)

Edit: AP test scores: I have 5, and I will have 13 when I’m finished with this year. (My scores are all 5’s except for one 4 so far, and I’m looking to keep that up.) There aren’t many because the school that I went to when I was a freshman/sophomore didn’t offer any.
