I saw a thread like this on the UCLA forum and thought it would be interesting to see what NYU students thought were their best classes and/or professors. :)

advertising and society with wrenn. . . i think it was a one shot deal, but that class was incredible and totally changed the way i thought about advertising and cemented my decision that i definitely want to go to graduate school.

video games: culture and industry also led me to my current research position.

Expressive Cultures: Graphic Novel

As far as I know it’s only offered in the summer but E. Borenstein, the professor, is pretty knowledgeable. I didn’t know anything about graphic novels before coming to this class, but we covered the classics and some pretty interesting authors. I had no idea you could analyze graphic novels so closely. Lenient grader and I learned alot. Plus having comic books to read for homework and discussing them in the summer passes the time well and is pretty fun. I got away with an A, and it was very straightforward: 2 short papers, a midterm paper and a final paper.

Most of my friends are taking it during the fall/spring to give them one easier class to balance out the more intense ones, but I just wanted to get this out of the way and found myself really enjoying it (considering it’s a required MAP class for CAS students).

Borenstein is an awesome prof…took slavic lit with him.

The best clases I’ve taken have been in the math and econ. departments.

I’m in the graphic novel class right now myself and it is really enjoyable and interesting. What are the in class midterm and final exams like?

Gender in Law with Silvia Maier, it’s offered by the politics department.

And a number of philosophy classes, but those would probably only be interesting to people who are genuinely interested in philosophy.

Everyone has to take writing the essay. If you’re in Tisch try to get Jenni Quilter. People make WTE sound like hell, but I actually really like the class and that’s mostly because of Jenni!

Science of Happiness by Lerner and Schlecter.

Highly recommended!
