Are all the collges at Yale equal in quality>

Definitely not. I think most people would love to be sorted into Branford (I would at least). There are some colleges you hear of all the time and others that are not so popular. Which kinda sucks because you have no choice and you're in it for four years. That said, most people feel a strong connection to their college, popular or not.

I like Branford (pretty) and Berkeley (great food), but have never met a Yalie who didn't think his or her college was the best.

Well, except Morse. Morse is "new construction," which means it's this monolithic eyesore wedged between the Barnes and Noble and the Payne Whitney Gym. Inside Morse it's ugly, too.

I personally think both Morse and Stiles are hideous, but members of those colleges seem to like them anyway.

But I don't think any student there would admit to theirs not being the best.

Calhoun has a sauna :) I'm partial to that now because it was my interview's college and I loved my interviewer.

I don't think I would want to be in a college that's not on Old Campus frosh year...I forget what they are...Silliman and TD?

Yeah. Silliman, though, is awesome! And really beautiful. And really convenient if you're taking any math/engineering/science hill courses.

I really liked Saybrook. It had been renovated and was very nice. When I visited, they were having a music performance in their theater (a very nice one, too) that night. :)

When I visited Yale and went to Branford, I was so taken aback by the courtyards! They are amazing with the pop-out windows and everything. I felt like I was going back in time.

I looove the courtyards there! So beautiful. When I visited in the summer it was really sunny and ahh just sigh

JE SUX!!! and by that... i mean that JE is the best college at Yale ... what we lack in facilities and food, we make up for in the quality of the people :)

How can the food differ so much? Isn't it done by the same central food people?

First, living in Silliman and TD have their own advantages. As a freshman Sillimander I enjoy having the resources of my residential college right near me (dining hall, library, buttery, laundry, master's house, dean's office, etc.) It's nice in the winter to be able to access everything I need through a basement and not have to go outside into the recent blizzard or the freezing cold. Also, although they aren't well-located in relation to the other residential colleges they are well located in relation to classrooms. I would chance to say that Silliman is probably the best-located college on campus. Also, Silliman is going to be renovated this summer and your sophomore year. This summer they are renovating half of the freshman housing so if you are lucky you will have brand new rooms in Silliman.

To answer the questions about the dining halls they aren't all equal. First, Berkeley is obviously the best dining hall because they use good ingredients and put actual effort in making the food nice. The rest of the colleges are about equal and they all serve the same menu every meal although a few renovated ones have grills (which allow you to order hamburgers/chicken breast/hot dog/veggie burger if the meal that night is disgusting) and nicer presentation than others (TD and Pierson).

But you can eat at any of them...but in actuality, do you go to other colleges cafeterias? Also, how does the meal plan work?

The meal plan your freshman year works where you have to have the 21 meal a week plan which means essentially 3 meals a day. And no, you can't eat at all of them. Berkeley, Branford, Saybrook, Pierson, Trumbull, and Calhoun all have some sort of transfer restrictions to those who aren't in their residential colleges (Berkeley, Pierson, and Saybrook's are the most restrictive making it nearly impossible to eat there unless you are in the college. I imagine that Davenport will have restrictions once they reopen. I use TD a lot because I like their dining hall more than Silliman's and I used to use Pierson's when I had a class down there with a friend from Pierson who could get me in.

Really? I always thought you were free to eat at any of them! That's what the tour guides always said...aww :(

That is disappointing :(

Yah. It is. I guess you can just make friends at every college and go with them? Or try to get into the college with the best food...

I'm dying for Berkeley food. I hear all the food in the Berkeley dining hall is organic, like the food at my high school. I think I would adjust better to college life with good food.

Ohhhh food... I can't wait for some selection. drools
