Best Community on South Campus for freshmen?

So, If I go to UNC, I would probably stay on the south campus (because I've heard it's really good for freshmen socializing?). I'm out of state and I go to a public school.

Can any current students recommend a community that has a good combination of:

big dorm rooms (suite-style maybe)

close location to classes

Or...If anyone wants to post their view on Granville for out of state people...then that would be great. I've heard it isn't very welcoming for out of staters, though.

Thanks!

Also, I've heard about a Health Sciences learning community somewhere?
Can anyone explain that to me also?

Thanks.

Noisey. Learning communities are good ideas. Check the housing website for explanations. There are freshmen all over campus. Traditionally no one wants south so that is where many get stuck. If you go there ask for directional dorms ie. south, north, etc. those are newer.

How hard is it to get into a learning community as a freshman?

IamGandhi, I know very little about getting into learning communities, but I believe that some of them require applications to get in. So I would assume that they are accessible to freshmen on the grounds that you have to earn your right to live there, but that is just an assumption. I don't know how popular they are or if freshmen get equal consideration.

And as for South Campus and proximity to classes, all of the dorms are more or less the same distance away, like a 10 minute walk maybe. Morrison, I guess, has an edge in distance and is kind of closer to North Campus. That's a building that freshmen won't get. Someone just posted a brand new thread on housing and there was a really nice detailed response on South Campus housing, so I'd check that out.
