Best Dorm For Wharton

Was wondering what the best dorm is for incoming undergrad Wharton students. Is there one where a majority stay, or is there one with the most Wharton resources?

Also, it says housing opens up at 9am PT April 1. Does this mean we can pick housing even if we have not committed?

wharton doesnt have special dorms lol. all Penn undergrads share the same dorms. there are no dorms that specialize in offering resources for a particular school.

@openguy,

Considering that it says that all housing requests that are submitted before May 1st will be reviewed equally, why not wait until you get a chance to visit the campus for Quaker Days before you select a house?

I would suggest to all incoming students, regardless of school, that you start calling yourself Penn students. You will all be going through this together, and making it sound like “us” and “them” will not benefit anyone.

@openguy Could not agree more with what @Much2learn‌ is saying here. You will see that when you get on campus it doesnt really matter what school you are in and it will sound strange if try to overly identify youself as a wharton student or seas student etc rather than a penn student. It creates a fragmented culture that doesn’t help anyone. Truth be told fragmentation was an issue for a long time in the past but for the last decade or so penn has really made an effort to make the undergraduate community more cohesive and has succeeded in my opinion. And this has really worked wonders for Penn’s reputation and progress as well as the quality of the undergraduate experience. However they are still some small remnants of the segmented culture of the past that we all should strive to get rid of. Especially since you are in wharton, trying to separate youself from the rest of penn will be perceived as obnoxious and douchey, not only by the rest of penn but also by other whartonites. As a current S̶e̶a̶s̶/̶w̶h̶a̶r̶t̶o̶n̶ Penn student, I can tell you this is def not the way you wanna be perceived on campus. Nowadays at Penn you will meet as many smart/accomplished people who happen to not be studying business at penn as people who are, so go in with an open mind and leave any pre-conceived ideas behind.

@Penn95‌ @Much2learn‌ Why must you make the assumption that I’m trying to be pretentious or what not. Of course I consider myself a Penn student. To give you an analogy, Foothill at Cal is where the engineering students stay. They call themselves Cal students, but a majority of them live in the Foothill dorm. All I was asking is if there was something similar.

@Tiberium‌ will do, but was just wondering in case I can’t visit.

Anyone have favorite dorms?

@openguy My assumption was that you were not intending to imply anything. However, I did think that someone might infer it. My intent was to be helpful not to reprimand in any way. I am sorry if it sounded like that.

Most freshmen live in The Quad. The benefit of the quad is the chance to get to know a larger number of students, plus taking part in a quintessential Penn experience.

@openguy‌ same here. Only meant to give advice since I have already been where you are now, not put you on the spot or anything.

In terms of dorms, try to shoot for the Quad. It is were most freshmen live and although most rooms tend to be small it makes for a good freshman experience. Also since there are mostly freshmen the individual college houses organize a lot of fun activities, academic tutoring and general advising sessions.

@Penn95‌ @Much2learn‌ No worries guys, you have a valid point.

What would be the quietest dorm/the one closest to Wharton – that may be a better question to ask :slight_smile:

@openguy The quad is pretty close to steiny d and huntsman and also sansom west and the high risers are pretty close too. They only thing is the high risers and sansom are mainly for upperclassmen and grad students respectively. ( although there are a few undergrads in sansom west- i am one of them) Sansom is probably the quietest dorm and I have heard the high risers are too. The only thing is that both of these might not be a good idea for a freshman since there is not really a sense of community because most are upperclassmen who are already settled down at penn, have made their friends etc so you will not get to meet as many people which i feel is important to do as a freshman. I think the quad is more suited for a freshman, it is not very loud and it is pretty close to the wharton buildings. Steiny d is like across the street from the upper quad gate and huntsman is super close too ( look it up on google maps).

The Quad (Riepe, Ware and Fisher Hassenfield) are the most popular dorms for freshmen. Stouffer is generally a nicer but less social dorm that is also very close to Hunstman and Steiny D. The high rises aren’t far, but very few freshmen live there (<100/year). Kings Court / English House and Hill are where freshmen who didn’t get placed in the Quad will get placed; the facilities at KCEH are superior to Hill’s, but Hill tends to foster closer friendships with neighbors.
