Best Dorm + Meal Options for Freshman?

So I’m a freshman who might attend CPP this Fall.

What would be the cheap but good plan to take? How do the 10-14-19 meal plans work? Are the triple rooms bigger than than the double rooms in the Residence Hall? Which residence hall is the best for freshman? Are they split up into different majors? Like the engineering majors usually dorm in this hall and other majors dorm in something else?

Any suggestions would be GREAT!

Dorms are all the same size whether triple or double… Meal plan depends on how many times u wanna eat a week. You can ask for a roommate with your major but floors are random.

Is living in a triple room really cramp or not? What are the newest residence halls for freshman?

My son and I went on a guided tour 2 weeks ago and were shown a dorm room in Encinitas. It was a room shown just for tours. I felt sorry for the girl sitting on her bed with the door open right next to it. She ended up shutting her door while we were in the viewing room.

OK so the room was very small. 2 beds, 2 desks, then a dresser with 4 drawers on the left and 4 drawers on the right. If you want to fit a mini fridge anywhere besides in the closets, you’ll have to loft your bed and put your desk underneath. Then they’d have to be scooted towards the closets because there are built in book shelves that are in the corner and go up to the ceiling. Next to that are bulletin boards that would be covered by a lofted bed. You have to use a key to enter the bathroom which is probably good for safety.

So the room was gross! The guide opened the door and we were hit with a musty smell. It needed paint too because there were areas where the paint/drywall were ripped off like someone was removing tape or something.

It was so quiet there! We went on a Thursday and only saw 3 students in the hallways of Encinitas. The downstairs was cool. There are two big rooms. One had 2 pool tables and a foosball table. The other side had sofa’s chairs, and a big flat screen tv.

The campus wasn’t very crowded either. We were there during the 12-1 lunch hour after the tour and the food court wasn’t even 2 crowded. No one has classes between 12 and 1.

We signed up for the 14 meal plan. We’ll up it the following quarter if it isn’t enough. The meals can be used at any of the food courts on campus, not just the dining hall :-)

The guide said they are phasing out triples. So they may have stopped it already. He wasn’t clear about that. I don’t see how they could fit 3 people in one of those! It would be way to crowded! Yes a triple would be the same size.

for me, i just took the 10 meal plans. i don’t think i’ll even eat that much so i got that.
