What are the best buildings or areas at UCONN?

You’ll probably be thrown into North, Northwest, or Towers. North is the worst, but NW and Towers are decent from what I’ve heard.

If you join a Learning Community, you can also get into Alumni, McMahon, or East. Alumni and McMahon are nice and have good locations, but East is pretty far away from everything and is full of vegans, so you might want to avoid that if you’ll be turned off by the dining options. Those are the first 3 off of the top of my head, there are other housing opportunities for learning communities. You can find it out on their website.

I’m personally interested in the Community Service and Global House learning communities, but I can’t decide which I want to apply for. CS is in Alumni and GH is in McMahon, but space is limited, so you should fill out housing early if you want to get into either of those residencies.

My son is a freshman at UCONN. He is in the Engineering house and is in Northwest. Good dining there and a good location to get to his classes.

You will most likely end up in North, Northwest, Towers, or maybe East.

I personally lived in Towers for two years and did not have a problem with the residence hall other than its distant from most of campus. However, Towers in my personal opinion has a great dining hall and is very accessible by the UConn bus system.

If you get a chance to live in Alumni I would definitely recommend it. I had a few friends there and the dorms were well sized, close proximity to McMahon and South Dining Halls, and the dorm is fairly close to the central area of campus.

McMahon has its advantage in having a Dining Hall inside the building but the international food can be hit or miss depending on your preferences.
