is it likely to be placed on your first choices or should I begin praying for private bath ?

I said private bath and I got one… idk if I got lucky or not

But then again with so many people running around saying how god awful they think North Campus is there probably isn’t that many people requesting Baits

This may sound like comparing apples to oranges, but which would you say is more convenient:

[ul]
[]To live closer to where most of your classes take place (no matter the quality of the dorm), or;
[]To live on a comfy dorm (no matter how far it is to your classes).
[/ul]

I picked 2

What about the quads ? Should I choose a suite ( or a quad ) instead of a double room with a private bath ?

Please I need your advice !!!

It depends. Have you ever had a roomate before? Gone to camp maybe? I shared a room with my sister growing up so I thought roommates would’t bother me, only to find that I can’t tolerate them at all and I am willing to do whatever it takes to have as few roommates as possible. I would sooner commute from my parents house than live in a triple or quad.

Personally, I pick proximity to classes over comfort-- I am not sure if any of the dorms are truly uncomfortable, and I am not a morning person and am really helped by the fact that I only need 5 minutes to get to class if I sleep in.

I chose Group 2…but Group 1 is also…attractive…

I definitely should’ve looked at this before submitting my application… I read somewhere that Baits was good…and chose it as my number 1 choice…
I guess I’ll suffer my freshman year…

^so you read it was good, believed that

now you read it was bad, and you automatically are gonna believe that?

what if I tell you it is good? are you gonna sawy back to being ok with it?

I thought I read it was good.
I wouldn’t mind living on Baits, but I’d prefer Bursley.
I’m from Texas and I don’t think I’d be used to the cold weather freshman year and want to walk to Bursley just to eat.
It’d be good exercise, but still.
I wouldn’t mind Baits anymore though.

As a freshman, which dorm would be better – Mojo, Stockwell or Couzens – And are there a lot, or any freshman in these dorms?

deeman11-

Housing for freshmen is based on a lottery system where you have (almost) no input on where you end up. Your choices are between Central Campus, Bursley, and Baits.

In terms of those dorms, Stockwell is for sophomores and up, Mojo is for MRC, WISE and Eres, and cousins should be mostly LHS and MCSP along with sophomores and up.
(These acronyms all represent living/learning communities)

Unless you are in one of the living/learning communities, your chances of ending up in one of these dorms is remarkably low.

Thanks – I called about housing today because I have allergy conditions so I am requesting air condition. They told me that Mojo, Stockwell and Couzens are the three dorms that have central air that I would be put in. I am not in a living/learning community. If there are hardly any freshman in these dorms then I wouldn’t request to have a/c. Is there any chance that one of them next year houses more freshman?

That surprises me that they said that, because I have friends who have allergies, and instead of putting them in a a/c dorm, they installed a window mounted unit in their room. They may be doing it differently next year though.

Anyways, Mojo and Cousins both should have at least ~200 freshmen each (Out of ~500). I have heard though that they may be changing which dorms are predominantly freshmen for next year.

You wouldn’t be put in Stockwell as it is only available to sophomores and up. It does have central air though.

How does the room type selection works in Umich ?

Freshmen housing is a very simple process. This is what I remember from last year.

When you go to sign up for a room, I believe there are something like four (Edit: Five) questions.
- Is there someone who you would like to room with. (This takes preference over location)
2.Rank locations by preference: (Central/Hill, Bursley, Baits) You have no input into what building you get assigned unless you want north campus. - Rank room pricing categories (I don’t remember the specifics)
- Is there a Living/Learning community that you want to apply to.
(Edit: 5. Smoking Preference (Substance Free, Allergic to Smoke, Non-Smoker, Smoker))

That’s about it. You then get put into a lottery and sometime between now and just before school you should get an email detailing how to view your room assignment.

Id say Markley is the best for freshman

Yeah, I have a window unit in newberry because of my allergies. I’m surprised that they would change how that’s done, they get to charge me several hundred dollars for the unit.
