Best Dorms?

I'm going to be an incoming freshman from out of state, and have never been to Atlanta before. I'm looking for a co-ed dorm with a friendly atmosphere (mostly freshman?). Could anyone tell me what they think the best 2 or 3 dorms are and why? Also I’m an engineering major, should I go into an engineering dorm? Answers are much appreciated!!

Tech has Freshman Experience, which is a program that involves living in all freshman dorms with special programs and activities throughout the year especially for freshman. It cost a bit more, but peoples generally agree that its a worthwhile experience, and you’ll have more fun the a FE dorm than you will in another dorm. Most freshman dorms are FE, although there are some that are not.

Tech has two sides of campus, East and West. East is the older side and is generally considered the more exciting and lively side, although it’s also considered the more dangerous side, since its located closer to downtown. West is newer, and is more quiet and safer than East. There aren’t any engineering dorms, but with regards to distance to your classes, both sides are approximately the same. The library is on East, the Campus Recreation Center is on West, most of the fraternities and sororities are on East, the student center is in the middle, and your classes will be spread out depending on your major.

If you want to live in a quiet area with nice dorms, then choose West. If you don’t mind the old buildings and are the type of person who likes excitement, or if you’re interested in Greek Life, then choose East. All of the FE dorms on West are co-ed, and the best would probably be Freeman and Montag, which are being renovated right now and will be done for Fall. Hefner and Armstrong are the second most recently renovated, and are very nice. Those four dorms are also the only freshman dorms that have elevators. I’m less sure about which dorms are better on East, but a lot of the dorms are female or male only.

You can go to [Georgia Tech Housing](http://www.housing.gatech.edu/reshalls/index.cfm) and look at pictures of the residence halls. Also pay attention to what year they were most recently renovated.
