So it looks like my DS is narrowing down to NCSU School of Design (Architecture) as his final choice. Waiting to hear back from one school (but not one of his top choices) He went on a visit last weekend but wasn’t able to see the dorms inside. Any guidance on first, second, third choice dorms? TIA!
Have you see this -

For the dorms I am familiar with, it seems to be an honest representation. For several of the dorms, there is a pretty good 3d view of student rooms complete with the sheer volume of “stuff” that comes with college life. Much more honest than what can be more considered a marketing photo.
I won’t try to recommend a dorm. To me, they all start to run together. My own S1 S2 S3 have been content.
@DecideSomeHow thank you for the link! We did go on it and the 3D are pretty cool! I just wasn’t sure if some dorms were better than others location-wise, socially, etc. or if they are all basically equal outside of configuration. Thanks for your feedback!
My child is an Architecture/School of Design Major and lives in North. It’s very convenient to the Design School and your child will spend endless nights in there working on projects…walking home late at night…The disadvantage is the nearest dining hall is not close by.
Thanks @ToddinRaleigh
Biggest thing to consider is the type, most are Halls or suites and a couple are hotel types. Halls and suites are more social as they have more interaction. Central Campus (tri-towers) and the Central Campus Halls are very convenient to both classes and dining, while west campus is most convenient to dining and less so to classes, but not too bad. Most dorms also have a ‘community’ is he interested in one of those? If so, that might decide.
DD lived in 2 different dorms. As far as I can tell the biggest difference is suite style, meaning sharing a small number of toilets/showers vs. hall style sharing a large number of showers/toilets.(recommend the latter) Other than that perhaps location, almost all first year non CS, non EE classes will be on North campus. there’s one dining hall that is where the athletes eat that may have better food, but it is only open to non-athletes M-F breakfast/lunch . or something like that, in case you want to do a deep dive. (Case dining hall) . not aware of any make or break other issues with the dorms at NCSU. Basically for non-engineers central campus dorms put you closest to north campus classes
