For someone without a cosigner, what are the best places to apply for college loans? The likelihood of being approved and the amount of money they're willing to give are the main considerations.

Are you an American or green card resident?

Are you talking about a private bank loan?

Do you have an income?

or…are you talking about a Stafford student loan? (Is this for freshman year of college?)

Truthfully, the only loan a student probably can easily get is the Stafford loan which does not require a cosigner.

To get any other kind of private bank loan, you will need to show sufficient income and collaterol to back your loan. In other words, the bank will not lend you money unless they feel you are financially a good risk…and they will have something to collect from (your wages or collaterol) if you default on your payments.

Especially with the climate in banking, it is unlikely that a student without sufficient income or collaterol will get a bank loan without a cosigner.

Just my humble opinion.

Agree with thumper. A stafford loan does not need a cosigner. You can get $5500 as a freshman (assuming you are eligible for federal aid). That is the only loan a student with little to no income and little credit history is likely to get without a cosigner.

I agree with the above. However, if the OP is an international, he can’t get a Stafford loan, either. (I don’t know if the OP is an international or not.)
