namaste, they aren't that limited. Besides, who wants dining hall food for a late night meal anyways or any other random meal for that matter? It's all about the greasy Puzzles food (well it used to be), smoothies/ice blendz/coffee and now Rendezvous!!. :D

Jasonx88, premier isn't really worth it if you're just trying to save a few meals. Let's just consider the scenario of 19P; you get ~209 meals per quarter. Now if you "saved" 35 meals, you're paying a premium of ~$10 extra on top of what you paid for that meal already. But that meal didn't even cost $10... especially if you redeemed it for a smoothie or two drinks. So unless you're planning to miss a lot more than 30 meals a quarter (maybe like 70+), bringing other people in, or like using multiple swipes within a period, it isn't really worth it.

Anyways, to answer your question. Yes you can get to go from the boutiques. Actually, they serve you in disposable containers. And I don't think students eat out much since it becomes a drag to go to Westwood just for the sake of eating. It's also a drag to go to Ackerman to just get food. They also close kind of early.

yeah, walking 20+ mins just to goto westwood to eat all the time wouldnt be worth it. and i guarantee that after a few times you'll get lazy and just "settle" for dining halls. plus eating out all the time is going to cost you a LOT. specials occasions or every once in a while is a given though. :D

plus theres always the option of ordering in! many restaurants in the vicinity provide free delivery if you order a certain amount of food.

Maybe I'm too dumb to understand things but got a question:

Let's say My family visits me (let's say 4 people excluding myself) and wants to get a taste of what UCLA food is like. So I do them a lil favor and offer them lunch at one of the Housing food restaurants.

In this situation:

1.) If I had 14P, would it just count as one meal (even though I'm buying for five different people including myself)?
2.) If I had non-premier plan, would my family have to pay for their own food?

^ and if you have a ton of swipes left over at the end of a quarter, you can buy water/soda/gatorade in bulk

those 4 advantages are A LOT. i had 14 regular and had so many wasted swipes , plus i ate far less coz of meal periods (which may not ahve been a bad thing..) though i did have to waste money @ ackerman

^ no. one swipe = 2 bottles of a drink (water, soda, lemonade/tea, gatorade).
yes, it's kind of a ripoff, but it's better than wasting your swipes.

and dhl3, you're missing one BIG advantage premier plans have. they don't depend on the clock!!! non-premier plans let you swipe in once per meal period. so you can eat once, and then let's say you want a smoothie- nope. wait til the next period. want to go to bcaf for a study break? already got a late dinner at 10? wait til midnite. do not pass go. jkjkjk...

in any case, this is a hindrance to some people. others don't care. if you don't like watching the clock and memorizing meal periods, or you just want flexibility, go with premier. if the one-per-meal-period (meaning no friends, no second dinners before 10, no smoothie to go with your sandwich) doesn't bug you, then you'll be fine without it.

just wanted to make sure you take that into consideration as well.

well, those criteria really don't point one way or another.

do you want to be able to use swipes for beverages? will you ever eat lunch on campus and then want to eat twice on the hill in the evening? will you ever want to swipe in friends/family? order mypizza? not watch the clock to see when you can use your next swipe? do you prefer having swipes by the week that don't roll over, or having more flexible swipe usage (say, 10 one week and 20 the next)? (i ask this because it's good for if you plan to travel or eat off campus for a few days at a time)

also, just basic info: local grocery stores are ralph's and whole foods. we also have a convenience store on the hill, and a larger student market in the student union. because trust me, most likely you'll be too lazy to go off campus much for errands.

dining halls are open 7-10am, 11-3pm, and 5-8 or 5-9 on weekdays. a lot of people will take a piece of fruit out with them (say, a banana) to eat for breakfast the next day (generally on the way to class).

what the? those are really confusing!! Ok, so i think im going to get the 14 blue. Lets say that i skip a meal...then can i eat an extra meal like on friday of that same week the meal was skipped ?

there are X number of meal periods throughout the week (breakfast, lunch, dinner, so on and so forth, someone else can go into detail if they want).

you get either 11, 14, or 19 non-premier swipes (in mojo's case, 14) to use throughout the week.

you can use these at any of the meal periods SO LONG AS you do not try to use 2 or more swipes at the same meal period.

it's not like each swipe expires after the meal period goes by, if you don't use it. you could eat no meals on Monday and eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snack on Tuesday, if you so desired. you cannot eat two dinners, however, between 5 and 10 pm. and if you only use 10 of your 14 swipes in a given week, you won't have 14 plus 4 swipes the next week.

within the week, however, you are (almost) free to do as you wish with your swipes.

ok, so since they dont roll over to the next week, i am allowed to use those 4 that i didnt use on like...saturday and sunday (before the week ends), right?

Ahhh, I chose 19 premiere, only because the difference between 14 premiere and 19 was About $150 for the year.

I think 14 premiere would have been fine, but I think 19 premiere could be better because I want to eat in the halls twice a day, plus get a smoothie on weekdays, and eat twice on weekends, and go up to Nor Cal once every few weeks. Does that make sense with the 19 premiere? I heard something about a "My Pizza" with the premiere, and I love pizza :)

Anyone else have a 19 premiere and like it?

i think in your case 19 might be a little much. unless you're a guy, because they tend to get through the 19 plan better than girls.

but the good news about choosing 19 is that you can start with too many and then downgrade at the beginning of the quarter (if necessary) once you've actually established college eating habits. because trust me, your eating habits in college will NOT be like they were at home... nor will they be the way you think they will.

19 is good if you really do want to eat just about EVERY meal, and snack, on the hill. so, lunch and dinner every single day, plus 5 snacks (smoothies shakes coffees bottled water) per week. i find it a little daunting, but, like i said there are people who use that easily.

uclayay, i suggest you keep note of how many swipes you use for the first two weeks of school. and then figure out if you think that's representative of how you want to be eating. if yes, you're golden. if no, keep track of the downgrade deadline ;)
