Hi, So I got admitted to graduate school at Clemson. I'm from Senegal but I went to high school and undergrad in Ohio, so even though I feel I know a lot a lot America, it's in the Midwest, so I don't know squat about the south except except that people are friendly.

Anyway, as far as housing goes, Thornhill Village is full so I have to look at off campus apartments.
I don't drive so I would like to be in walking distance from campus, anyone got options?

Also as someone who is as far from southerner as there is, is there a real cultural shock or will I adjust easily.

There is a fantastic bus system in Clemson that can get you from many off-campus apartments to campus so you can still live sort of far away and still can get to campus pretty easily. Here is more information about the bus system: [Clemson Area Transit - Home](http://www.catbus.com)

As for off-campus housing, check out the website [Clemson University | Off Campus Housing Search](http://clemsonoffcampus.com)
Here you can find listings of apartments in the Clemson area and also people looking for roommates for next semester.

I think there will be a little bit of culture shock but that’s inevitable with moving somewhere new. Be flexible, open-minded and you’ll be fine at Clemson (keep overly negative comments to yourself, everyone does things differently whether it’s the northeast where I’m from, midwest, south, west etc…)

Thanks for the reply, yeah I have a totally open mind. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Another question is the issue of having a car. Is it a necessity or can you get bye without one. The impression I get from looking at the apartment guide is that you can’t walk to campus you have to take the bus or drive.

If you live within a mile to campus, you can definitely walk to campus, I lived by Tiger Boulevard last year and walked to school on nice days. At this point since most people have already signed leases, there probably isn’t a bunch of apartments really close to campus.

Burton Properties/Clemson Apartments has a very good reputation in the Clemson area (compared to some other companies, don’t rent from Advantage Property Management) - I think Heritage Pointe has one bedroom apartments and the bus stop on the red route that takes you to campus/downtown is right in front of the apartment.

Thanks again. I was going to try to private message you but I’m still new to the community. On my campus in Ohio, It takes me about 30 minutes to walk from my apartment to farthest class, so I can take a long walk.
But it seems like if I do get an apartment I would need to buy furniture and all that, so is a car absolutely necessary or can I get by.
I guess when I hear back from Burton/Clemson Apartments, I’ll let you know about what apartments I can get.

Burton Properties might not be a good fit for you then. Take a look at the listings on that website, some of the listings indicate that the property is furnished so that would definitely work out better for you.

hey, another question. It seems all the one bedroom apartments that are furnished are gone, so I’ll have to get buy with an unfurnished one.
Since I’m living in the Ohio, I might not come to check the apartments until July or August, so I wanted to ask if you knew anything in terms of distance or bad comments about these apartments
old central road, college street, Lindsay road, Vicksburg and heritage station.
I know this is too much to ask, but anything will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, it’s me again. So those apartments I mentioned seem kinda shady. I mean I couldn’t find any real info about it from anybody.
I think the pointe at Berkeley is more well known and even though it’s 2 or 4 bedroom it seems legit.

Do you know anything about it.

I don’t get there until August, so I hope I do find something at least.

I don’t think those apartments are shady since they are through Burton Properties. They are probably one of the best management companies in Clemson (other ones can have poor customer service and try to rip you off). Have you looked at Heritage Pointe? That’s probably the best apartment out of the Burton Properties and they have 1 bedroom.

The Pointe Of Berkeley isn’t bad either though I am not sure if they still have space available for the fall so I would ask them about it ASAP (but don’t expect them to have room)

I did look at heritage Pointe, it seems nice but it seems like many one room apartments don’t have furniture, and being someone from a different state without a car, furnished apartments seem important. Plus the Pointe at Berkeley has cable and all the amenities which is attractive, except the fact that there may not be space, and it’s not a one room.

I know The Pointe At Berkeley will match you up with roommates (aka if you only want one room and someone has a spot, they will put you there, only responsible for your room). Of course that is dependent if they have spots left.

Can you explain your comment about Advantage Property Management? We are looking at Crawford Falls and it appears that company is the manager there. Thanks.

Management is just poor - they don’t really have a sense of what is going on. Crawford Falls is a good apartment so you probably won’t have too many maintenance issues but if there are, expect to nag them a few times to get stuff done. Also, make sure the apartment is clean before you sign the lease and move in because they didn’t appear to have done anything to our apartment from the previous occupants.
