Best phone service?

I'm probably going to be getting a new phone before going, and considering we might change phone companies, I was wondering which got the best service around the schools and the general area?

Right now we have Sprint, and it's absolutely terrible where I live. Is Sprint any decent? Or is AT&T better?

Thanks!

I don't know about Sprint, but I had Cingular/AT&T and had good luck with that. The first year, I got poor reception inside of my room, but it was better every year after that. Reliable throughout the region in general. Probably what most of my friends were on, too.

My roommate had Verizon and said that she had good service, as well. Can't speak firsthand.

If you go to the provider's store to switch, they should be able to show you coverage maps. Not a perfect way to judge, but still helpful. Also, when you get your housing, etc. info from Scripps, cell providers might actually be mentioned in it. Not positive about that...a student/parent with more recent experience might remember better :)

Anyone have T-Mobile? My d. has that now, and if we don't have to switch, that's good thing.

My boyfriend goes to Pitzer and he says he almost always has coverage with his T-Mobile phone. He takes one class at Scripps and often eats at their cafeteria and said he has had no problems on Scripps campus.

thanks, PP, good to know.

Sneaking in to see how everyone is doing... We visited the Claremonts many many times, and it was one of the campuses where our T-Mobile phones had great signal. However, a basement dorm room might not get any cell reception. D is going to another school (sigh!), and we'll have to switch her service to the evil AT&T.
