best place to dorm

i'm an incoming freshman and i was wondering where the best place was to dorm next year.

It depends what you’re looking for. If you like the whole communal bathroom idea and you want to get really close with the people that live around you, live in the AMR’s. Buildings A, B and Wolman are nicer (in my opinion, and they are suites), but from what I’ve heard, they tend to be less social.

I lived in AMR. I thought I would hate it but it was actually not bad at all.

So, if you’re a freshman, you don’t have to be in the AMR dorms?

[Hopkins Interactive >> @Hopkins >> Hopkins Cribs](http://apply.jhu.edu/hi/athopkins/cribs.html)

yeah freshman can live in wolman, a and b, and the AMR’s…i wanna be somehwere social so i guess AMR’s are it but kinda sucks cause i wouldnt mind the amenities of wolman

All I have to do to be social is get out of the doggone dorms. I want the amenities. Bring on the amenities!

Just… no communal baths…That’s all I want. Thanks for the link.

EDIT: Yes! No communal baths in the other two… Haha…

I am currently living in the AMRs, and I would DEFINITELY live here again if I could relive freshman year. Everyone will tell you that it is a LOT more social in the AMRs when compared to A&B or Wolman.

In the AMR’s, everyone’s door is left open or unlocked and people are constantly in the halls studying together, watching movies, singing together (really…with guitars, bongo drums, violins and all), eating Subway at 3AM in the morning after a fun night at frat parties, etc.

Wolman and A&B on the other hand are usually never like this. Most of the time, suitemates will hang out together (in a group of 3 or 4) while at the AMRs, you will most likely go to parties and social events as a floor or an individual house. The AMRs are set up so you can interact with your neighbors easily and that’s what I love.

Also, the “communal” bathrooms are not as bad as you think. Most of the AMRII bathrooms have been renovated this year with state of the art toilets, urinals, sinks, showers. There are usually about 1 boy and 1 girl bathroom/shower per two houses on every floor so there are plenty of options. They also get cleaned by the maintenance staff daily so you have nothing to worry about (whereas, I have heard form a bunch of friends living in Wolman how horrible it is to maintain their own bathroom).

I advise living in the AMRs, because it really allows you to establish connections with people instantly. As a freshmen, you are looking to fit in and make friends, and the AMRs easily allow you to do that. Your RAs are almost always there for you, and on top of that, you are right next to the Fresh Food Cafe (main dining hall) and on campus. In Sophomore year, everyone will be able to live in a suite-style dorm (called McCoy) that is the equivalent to Wolman or better…so you would only have to endure the communal bathrooms for just a year. But even so, the personal relationships you build from living in the AMRs are priceless.

alrighty then AMR it is hah… thanks

I really would like a social atmosphere three o’ clock in the morning… But I have the strangest question ever…

The communal bathrooms gave the most trouble when I was staying over at other colleges for a few days. But I saw one type of communal bathroom that was wonderfully tolerable.

A. First there was a curtain where you can get dressed and hang your clothes, then there was the curtain for the shower- this was for each individual shower so it was almost like having your own bathroom without the toilet or sink.

B. Curtainless scares the bejeezus out of me (like gym showers). A curtain to the shower area (that are separated from, like, the toilets) isn’t that much better.

Are the AMRs like A or B? If A, then AMRs are definitely better. B… I couldn’t stand it for three weeks. I doubt I’ll be able to do a year.

Is housing guaranteed for all four years?

when i went and visited with the track team i stayed in the AMR dorms…theres curtains on the showers shinashi hah. the bathrooms are in a U-Shape, when you walk into the bathrooms there’s urinals and stalls to left and sinks to the right. if you keep going straight and around the U there’s 2 showers w/ curtains

and ebhbmom housing is guaranteed for 2 years

That’s what I feared. Thanks for the info!
