Where are the best places to study on campus? I know it is an opinion, but what are some "hot spots"? I toured UT the other day and the front of the school with the statue and all the grass seems like it would be good, but it was "CAUTIONED" off...maybe because they want it to be ready for the fall?

Also, what is the deal with the statue? It is a half horse half fish? What is the meaning behind that?

The grass was replaced recently. It wasn’t roped off before and I’m sure that will be down whenever the grass settles, or whatever it is it needs to do.

The fifth floor of PCL is popular for group study. I think it is a biy loud so I don’t go there. I like to go to the second floor of the Catholic center. They have big tables scattered around, wireless access, and it is fairly quiet.

Thanks!

Would you say most people stay on campus throughout the week?

The South Mall is the area you were describing. I personally like a pretty well kept secret, which is the area behind Anna Hiss gym. Probably the most beautiful part of campus.

No, I would say that hardly anyone stays on campus during the week unless they live there. Most people head back to their apartments in West Campus or Riverside when they are done with class unless they have a study group or office hours.

The most popular place to study, by far, is the PCL.

3rd and 4th floor are quiet floors. There are individual cubicals sectioned off and you can just go there and sit in silent solitude (if you like that, although silence sometimes gets freaky). 5th floor is for group study but it can get a bit loud.

The Business school is also a popular study place, as is Welch.

Business school and PCL are open late (I think business school is 24/7).

Most people study there or in their dorm’s study room. Each dorm has a study room so you can go there.

Weekends are usually quiet as most students go back to their apartment (in west campus, riverside, etc) and only the students living in dorms are still there. However, most people are still in there room studying. Maybe the first few weeks there will be people but once tests start it’ll be quiet again. The silence is kind of weird at first but then you realize that it’s kind of peaceful after a while.
