Colgate is an excellent school for pre-med and they have a killer singing group.

What’s the general opinion of the “little ivies” as an undergrad stepping stone to medical school…that being the NESCAC schools such as Bowdoin, Colby, Bates, Middlebury, Williams, Tufts, and etc… My son is a senior and a strong student…SAT 700/700/700; 32 on ACT’s; 4’s and up on A/P exams, honors and captain of 3 varsity sports teams at a Top 10 boarding school. Do the NESCAC schools send a high portion of their kids onto med. school? The Ivy League schools (HYPC) would be a long reach…he’s not a D-I level soccer player so no wild card help.

All excellent schools that send folks to med school. Don’t forget Hamilton. ;)

What about Kenyon College? We have been told their med school acceptance is over 90% (published) and an admissions counselor told us 94%.

Be very weary of med school aceptance rates.

^Why so? 10char

Because there are tons of ways of artificially inflating rates of acceptance, like taking into account people who fail to get in their first try but eventually make it in, counting people who choose to go to the Caribbean, refusing to provide committee letters to candidates considered sub-par, etc. The list goes on and on. What’s more important is that the school has strong academics coupled with significant experience in sending students on to medical school.

Does anyone have an opinion on Bucknell?

hey, im thinking of applying to the following schools, based on my academic standings. whats the best choice for me, both financially, and overall to get into med school.

vanderbilt (probably 50/50 shot of getting in)
bowdoin (probably 30/70 shot at getting in)
notre dame (probably 75/25 shot at getting in)
Northeastern (gtd full tuition. honors college is possibility)
Fordham U (gtd full tuition)

im really trying to find out whats the best situation for me. my parents cant pay any money (they make about 100k total in between them but they just will not pay for college) so im really screwed for money, and i need to keep my loans down, as ill obviously have to pay for school. can someone list these, or give me some good options.

My SATs were 2200
GPA is 3.45 (harddd school)
top 10% class rank
8 AP courses 4 or higher (calc BC, AP physics C as well)
extracurriculars and 100+ hours volunteer work
National Merit semifinalist (or better)
other various awards

Ever think about your state school?

northeastern kills my state school, URI

Unless you are a National Merit FINALIST, you are not guaranteed full tuition at Northeastern.

^ but since about every national merit semifinalist who takes the competition seriously gets it, im assuming i will

Can someone please rank the ivies for getting into med school. Thanks!

Just go to any place and do your best. Has worked for others, who took advantages of all opportunities at thier school (any UG), got high GPA, reasonable MCAT, participated in EC’s and enjoyed 4 years of their life. What fit somebody else, might not fit you. Value your own opinion over others, you are the one who will be there, not them.

BUMP! Does USC prepare their pre-med students relatively well? I got in already, but i’m already starting to contemplate.

Given all that has been said about picking the undergrad school that is best for you, doing your best and getting good results, can someone tell me more about BU and its pre med advising.

My D will be joining BU this fall and it has been a long eventful journey thus far.

much appreciated,
thanks, a

Can anyone tell me about Knox College premed?

Hello there,

Actually, I really find this thread interesting and I really wish to have some insights and opinions about what I am planing to do, I am open minded to every opinion ! Anyway, I am a prospective undergraduate student and I have always dreams to go to Med school so I am in the path of choosing the best pre-med program to get in top notch medical school in the US. I am just thinking to apply to this new program offered at McGill University, Canada called bioengineering, I know many of you say that engineering is a bad choice for pre-med but to me, it’s like the best preparation for med school because in engineering you get to use your mind a lot to solve problems that challenges you in every aspect, plus there are so many research opportunities in that program, also, the professors in the bioengineering are basically med school professors as well. I really don’t know if McGill has grade inflation but I would really appreciate some feedback on that. thanks in advance ;)
