monster .

An apple followed by a granola bar. The apple will give you a great boost and keep you perky, but they're fat-free and have practically no calories, so eat a granola bar (maybe one of those double Nature Valley granola bar packs, the peanut butter especially) to give you complex carbs to sustain you.

Apples for sure! Try microwaving apple slices :) I'm not really a big apple fan unless they're the exact type I like, but even the reds taste good microwaved. Anyway, fruit...some sort of whole wheat/whole grain/oats item...

i never tried this... a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, with some orange juice or gatorade. Has protein, carbs and vitamins. Preferably on whole wheat or high-fiber bread.

Red bull and nutragrain bars

drowsy medicine ;]

Are sugary drinks effective? Like drinking alot of soda before the reading section?

no because then you'll have to go to the bathroom

I recommend gum or mints

Crack and/or meth.

The second time I took the SAT I, I ate whole grain cereal and soy milk (accompanied by orange juice and tea) for breakfast, and brought a water bottle, a green apple, and a small ziploc bag of walnuts to eat during breaks. I can't say how much it contributed to helping me stay awake, but I did raise my math score from 650 to 760. :p

This is what worked for me...

Breakfast - scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast with almond butter, healthy cereal with apple chopped up in it, 1 cup of caffeinated tea.

Snack 1 - banana

Snack 2 - 2 granola bars

Snack 3 - chocolate covered almonds

The breakfast is really low glucose so it'll keep you going and the snacks keep your brain alert throughout the test. The chocolate almonds are a good pick-me-up for your last break.

Good luck!

whatever you end up eating, the redbull is definitely not a good idea. try to stay away from high levels of caffeine found in energy drinks and coffee. although it may make you feel alert and focused in the beginnning, caffeine actually makes it much harder for you to focus during the test and it also dehydrates you. if you are addicted to caffeine try some green tea in the morning and make sure you get a good nights sleep the night before the test!

lol once I had so much caffeine in my system from sodas that on the SAT test day my proctor had to come calm me down in the middle of the test. FYI I was shaking my leg like crazy in the middle of the classroom and I had no idea that I was doing it xD

Nevertheless I ended up with a 2130 on the test.

wasabi flavored nuts
