Okay... I haven't been here in a looooooong time. I have scanned through a lot of the discussion threads. I am nearly embarrassed to start THIS discussion (if there is any) but I simply MUST know.

What is the BEST STEAK to be had in Annapolis? I have heard a number of different thoughts. I've heard Lewnes Steak House followed by "but it is a little pricey." What is pricey? Ruth's Chris Steak House is pricey to me... it may not be to others.

Someone else said Middleton Tavern has a good steak - nice and casual. Then I heard a businessman say Boatyard Bar and Grill is a favorite steak place for the D.C. crowd. Still ANOTHER couple who were in from Texas visiting their plebe said they found a little Italian restaurant "just across the bridge" that has THE best melt-in-your-mouth steak they had EVER had. Of course at the time I did not note the name of said establishment.

Any tried and true thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

Harry Browne's. I was taken there by two alums -- Corbin McNeill and Steve Chadwick -- both have been around the block and they swear by it and I agree. I had a great steak and the atmosphere was very comfortable.

they are all good... harry brownes (our mid thought the place was too "stuffy"), chart house (consistant with their other establishments), as is Ruth Chris and lewens.... I would add in O'Brians (right in town).... good for prime rib if you are looking for that....

nothing sticks out in my mind as "outstanding".....my "new york bias" I'm afraid.... but they are all good....

the best thing about going to annapolis is discovering all these new "little places".... has anyone been to the "treaty of paris"??? next on my list....

Treaty of Paris is very good. Its more of an anniversary type of place than a place to take a Mid, unless he's a real foodie.

Navy2010 is right about steaks, you really need to go into DC and go to the Palm if you want an exceptional steak. There are a bunch of places in DC, but my favorite is the Palm, run by the same family that has owned the original Palm in NY since 1922. Its all a matter of tastes, other good steak places in DC are The Capital Grille, Smith and Wolensky's, Morton's, and the Caucus Room. There is a Ruth's Chris and a Bobby Van's but they aren't as good as the ones I listed before them.

I can see Harry Browne's being stuffy for a Mid. The two alums that took me there were Class of '62 and had retired from there second careers as CEOs after their first 20-30 years in the Navy. So for them it was comfortable and relaxed.

BTW, 2010, I'm still waiting for some suggestions of where to eat on Long Island. I've taken my Mid to all the steak places on Northern Blvd. But want something more interesting without having to go into Manhattan. He is a foodie, like his old man, so something out of the ordinary would be great.

a lot of local "who could possibly know this exsists?" places and the tried and true...
THANKS to all who replied and feel free to continue to comment!

A seafood place would be great. Especially a shack to just go and relax before encountering the long ride on the NJ turnpike.

Indian would be great.

I am tempted by all the interesting places on Northern Blvd in Douglaston and Little Neck, I am sure there are some good ones and then some really bad ones too.

For Italian, I am really fond of Mange Bene in Great Neck, but always up for something new.

We like all types, japanese is a favorite and austrailian has me very curious (I know you don't mean Outback!)

navy2010, you're the BEST. I recall we took several of your suggestions & all were great. Burton & Doyle was great. Remember that list of "things to do on Long Island" you'd worked so hard on? We should resurrect that thing. It was awesome! I'll search today & see if I can't find it & post it in the KP threads.

There is a kosher deli across the street from Bruce's in Great neck that has the best pastrami I have ever eaten! I don't know the name of it, but I go there most times I'm at KP. I just wish they were open on Saturday! But, I guess that's too much to ask! ;)

Right on the corner there is an all you can eat seafood buffet. I is right on the corner of Market and Main Street. It is upstairs and we were there the night before I-Day 2006 just after finishing football camp and there were a lot of soon to be Plebe's getting a lot of seafood into them at a reasonable price. It is not ritzy, however the food is good and the building is historic. There are a lot of great pics of the area when it flooded several years ago.
