Best test prep books--ACT, SAT, AP?

Hi, everyone! My name is Hayley, I'm a junior, and this is my very first post on this website (so I suppose it could also count as my intro). I scored a 2030 on my SAT and a 31 on my ACT, both on the first try with zero prep--well, unless you count some minor research into how to write the essays at like 7 a.m. the morning of.

However, I'd really like to bring those scores up. On top of that, I need some recommendation for AP Bio, APUSH, and AP Human (I'm not taking an AP Human class, so I'm doing this completely by myself with some minor private tutoring with the teacher that is supposed to teach it.)

If you guys have any recommendations, as well what to avoid, that would be great! Thank you!

Welcome! Hope you enjoy-we CCers are pretty cool for the most part. ;)

For the AP books, there is an absolutely AMAZING thread in the AP sub-forum of this part of CC. It tells which books are best for independent studiers, which books to avoid etc. etc.

As for the SAT and ACT (great job on them, btw! amazing scores for going in cold), general consensus is to start and mostly use the official books. So that means the ‘Blue Book’ for the SAT (CC terminology for College Board’s official guide to the SAT) and I think it’s called the Red Book for the ACT.

Specifically for the SAT, Dr. Chung’s and Gruber’s are excellent for the math section; Grammatix and Direct Hits help for the critical reading section; and Rocket Review is best for writing.
Dunno about the ACT, though-most people do say that it’s an easier test from what I’ve heard, so probably, prepping for the SAT will boost your ACT score as well. xD

Hope this helps! :)

Get the Real ACT Prep Guide, it’s unbelievably helpful. Getting a 31 on the ACT on your first try without any prep is superb, if you take the practice tests in the Real ACT prep guide it should go up to at least a 34.

All the best!
