“I am going to be in a regular mini suite. not the christian one since i cant stand christians. is my room still the same?”

@Clear My Mind: Christian Hall is the name of Unit 1 mini-suite building, named after Barbara Christian, a former professor at Cal. It’s not a religious affiliated building!

Whether you’re in Christian (unit 1 mini-suites) or Slottman (unit 2 mini-suites and NOT named after a kitchen utensil!), you are better off waiting until afternoon and avoiding the long lines early morning as babydragon said, the suites are really big and unless you really care about which side of the room your bed is on and want to stake it out, its not worth the hassle waiting in line and waiting for a cart and waiting for the elevator.

Same for the Foothill suites – doubles anyway. Foothill suite rooms are not as big as unit mini-suites, but about an hour before Foothill opens, there’s a huge line of people waiting to get their keys and check in, and forget about trying to get a cart.

Unit triples, the earlier the better to select your space.

there’s an ikea in emeryville, ~30 min by bus, ~15 min by car; i dont know about twin xl bed sheets; they definitely sell those at bed, bath, beyond, there’s one in el cerrito.

i found my twin xl bed sheets from ross for $4. a lot cheaper than in BBB/other stores.

I just went to Wal-Mart to get some stuff and they didn’t have Extended Twins. Well, they had one set of sheets and comforters, but they were terrible.

Some people start showing up at 9am. If you live in the bay area, come later… the so cal students need to move in early b/c their parents usually drive back home after moving in.

Well, I’m in a triple. And I have a lot of stuff from freshman year. (mom pretty much cleaned out my room) haha Oh this is gonna be a joy to meet my new roommates. I kinda regret not attempting to find an apartment

So we don’t get to know our roommates until move-in day?

Also, I’m in a Unit 3 triple and from SoCal, how early should I be there to claim the bottom bunk? I dunno if i want 2 closets though, that seems a bit annoying, plus I don’t have too many clothes to choose from.

I’d like to be early as possible, hopefully to get first pick and whatnot. When do they start allowing people to move in? When do the early birds come? I don’t want to wait in line, but I also don’t want to come later in the day.

you get to know roommates like next week or so broski. and it really depends on when they want to open the housing door to give you your keys. last year, iirc, it was about 9 or 10 at FH. (got there like 10 minutes before they opened the doors to give away the keys) anyone know when caltopia is this year and all that?

Just curious, do people generally prefer the bottom or top bunk? Do roommates usually wait for you to show up before they pick beds or is it first come first serve?

it should be discussed fairly, who gets what bunk.

i got there minutes after my two roommates and they had already picked their beds. i got no say. but i liked where my bed was so it was ok. otherwise i might’ve been kinda irked.

people usually like the bottom bunk for various reasons.

I’m not really sure which bed is the best either, and I don’t want to just pick randomly and regret it later on, since I will be in a unit 1 triple. But if I had to judge… I guess people like the bottom bunk for its proximity to the floor…? Hahaha. Well, there are drawers underneath for extra storage, and then the single desk is right next to it. (Personally, I’d freak out about the top bunk falling on top of me in the event of an earthquake or something.) The bunk seems the least advantageous… nothing much to say about it. The person in the loft bed might feel a bit isolated.
