Best way to get to Cornell?

So, what's the easiest/cheapest way to get to Cornell from out of state? Fly to Syracuse Airport and then what? Fly into JFK/LaGuardia/Long Island and then take the Cornell charter bus? How do most out-of-state people get there? Do they go home on short breaks (i.e. for Thanksgiving)?

The two most common options are:

1) Fly into Syracuse and take the airline limo (roughly $50 each way, $90 roundtrip) to Ithaca.

2) Fly into Ithaca.

Whether you can go home or not depends on how much money you have and how much your parents love you. I myself had to stay in Ithaca all 4 Thanksgivings I was here.

It depends on where you live.

My daughter is a student at Cornell who lives in the Washington, DC suburbs. There are private charter busses that run between the campus and our area during every Cornell break. The bus ride only costs $100 round trip -- not much more than it would cost simply to get to Syracuse. It's a seven-hour bus ride, but it's cheap and extremely popular. This Thanksgiving, arrangements were made for three busses, and every seat was sold.

If you live in a metropolitan area in the East where a lot of Cornell students come from, you may find that there is a similar service to your area. Current Cornell students who went to your high school would know.

I'm from the Midwest, so I will need access to an airport. I anticipate not being able to go home for Thanksgiving (should I find myself there), and I'm fine with that.

half of the thanksgiving battle is not just ithaca's location, but actually Cornell's schedule.

Scheduling classes until the afternoon on the wednesday before thanksgiving? Give me a break...

So do most people from outside the Northeast stay on campus for Thanksgiving?

I am on my fifth year flying kids home for Thanksgiving - plan ahead and it should work - as a freshman it is good to get home to see your high school friends as it would be the first time everyone is home...my daughter flew in and out of Ithaca this past week and it worked fine.
