Best way to get to Stanford from SFO?

I'm going to Stanford in a few weeks for admit weekend, but I'm not sure exactly how to get to campus. My flight is supposed to land at San Francisco airport around 12:15 PM; what's the cheapest, quickest way to get to Stanford from the airport? Would I be able to make it to the official welcome which starts at 1:15?

Only with a cab. There is public transportation but it would probably take a lot longer.

The only way you will get there by 1:15 is via taxi.

Oh, my, this is close, even for a Saturday with less traffic than usual, getting off a plane, etc. Absolutely a taxi since even renting a car would take time, and you probably can’t due to age. Isn’t the university providing any transportation?

@amoeboid6. I agree taxi is the quickest and most efficient method to get to Stanford. It should be okay since it will be Thursday non rush hour period…and even if you are a few minutes late your sponsors/students will come and get you when you arrive on campus…

They aren’t providing transportation so I gotta figure it out on my own. Ok so would super shuttle count as a taxi? Not sure exactly what it is…

Any shared ride service is dependent upon what time other passengers show up and where they are going. 12:15 arrival means that 12:15 is the time the parking brake on the plane is set. Then you have to account for time for the jetbridge to get to the door, deplaning, getting through SFO and getting to the curb if the flight is on-time. You can get a cab at dispatch or prearrange for a car. That is the only way you will get to Stanford by 1:15. Enjoy.

You could post online to see if other students will be arriving at the same time in order to split the cost.

Super shuttle is cheaper but they take multiple people to their locations… if you are the first location it turns out pretty good, but chances are you could wait for two other people to get dropped off.

Do not check any bags. SFO has one of the slowest baggage claim systems in the country, in MHO

Haha yeah I’m trying to fit all my stuff into a carry on size bag so I don’t have to deal with more waiting after getting off the plane lol. Thanks for all the help, could anyone give me an estimate of about how much a taxi from the airport to Stanford would cost?

$70-80

If you aren’t pressed for time, what is most reasonable way to get there?

If you aren’t pressed for time, SuperShuttle is fine. If you want to save even more, public transportation work too.

If you were not pressed for time, taking BART from SFO (internation terminal) provides a connection to Caltrain at the Millbrae station. Get off at the Palo Alto Transit Center stop and take the free Marguerite Shuttle. which serves the Stanford Campus (free to the public, no ID required).

If you are a little pressed for time, the super shuttle works well.

Your schedule is very tight - your best bet is to take a taxi.

Did you consider flying into the San Jose airport? The distance is closer to Palo Alto (than SFO) with good public transportation.

I might just do the super shuttle - I’ve heard the official opening/welcome isn’t interesting or useful

Second the BART-CalTrain-marguerite shuttle. Pretty straight forward. Super Shuttle is about 30 bucks, one way.

Another thing. I’m assuming that since you’re landing at 12:15 you’ve accepted that you’ll miss all the morning tours. If that’s fine with you, don’t worry about being on time for the welcome speech. It’s probably purely ceremonial, so not much harm done in getting there around 2, for instance.
