Well, gonna be in college soon and am gonna have to share those bathrooms. Not much of a problem for me except for a little bit of nervousness about putting in contacts in a public bathroom.

Now I'm wondering, where should I do something that requires generally more sterile conditions than the usual that goes on in the restroom. Is there a way to keep the contact lens case from the surfaces of the bathroom, or where would can I put them in at? I could do it in my room.. but have no sink to clean my hands? Lots of you guys probably put on contacts.. any creative ways, tips, or suggestions?

I put my contacts in in my room. I don't feel the need to wash my hands afterward (the solution is only saltwater, after all), but if you do, you could try going to the bathroom before and/or after you put them in.

When I started college I switched to a new type of lenses that don't need to be taken out... I just pull the old pair out after a month and insert the new ones, so there's no contact case or solution involved... It's about as sterile as you can get (i'm a little paranoid about that sort of thing) and those lenses tend to not give my eyes as much grief if I need to stay up late studying, too...

If you're wanting to stick to your normal contacts, I guess you'd probably have to just set the case on the counter, unless you want to make a wrist-strap to hold your contact case or something, which would be kinda freakish...

You can grab a paper towel and put that on the counter so the lens case isn't touching the counter if you're worried. But those dorm restrooms get cleaned everyday, so they're often cleaner than your bathroom at home (unless you're OCD or something). Regardless of what you do, always wash your hands before handling your contacts of touching your eyes.

yes, I use the ones that are worn monthly (and longer) without changing....focus night/day I think is the manuf. I would never go back. like having perfect vision. NEVER put on lenses in a public bathroom. Get a small mirror for your desk. Don't believe them those dorm restrooms are far from clean......

purell?? can you imagine getting alcohol in your eye in accident because a lil purell was left on your hands? OUCH. and purell just sanitizes it, it doesn't clean it. (Which means if you have crap on your hands and you just clean it with purell, you'll still have crap on your hands.... just without the bacteria i guess.)

This isn't even that big of a deal, just put a towel under your case or something. Long as your contact itself doesn't touch anything gross, than it should be fine. Who cares where your case touches? just clean that afterwards.

Keep contacts in your room and go to the bathroom when necessary. The sinks at my school stay very clean. You can always bring a basket(?) or something to put your contacts/solution in.

I didn’t know people went through all this effort lol. I keep my contact lens case on my nightstand, when I wake up I just pop them in, in like 30 seconds. They’ve been sitting in solution all night so they’re clean and they barely touch the surface of my index finger. I’ve been doing this for 8 years now and never had an infection or anything…I don’t know why you would need a sink or even a mirror if it isn’t your first time. But maybe a little mirror in your room would help?

^Same here…the contacts are on the tip of your index finger for MAYBE a few seconds. Especially if you’ve been wearing them for a while and can just pop 'em right in. I’ve been wearing them for 7 years now and I’ve never had a problem. I just rinse them in solution before I pop 'em in when I wake up and take them out before I go to bed.
