What can be the best way to start an essay? My SAT is on Saturday and I am very freaked out
I read some book which emphasized a “pan and scan” method. Basically, you introduce with a good quote (real or made up), “pan and scan” by offering a brief overview of the topic. Then state your thesis and offer a transition to the next paragraph.
I haven’t actually tried it but it seems like it could work pretty well
Normally I start with a sentence that provides some kind of background information or somehow leads into the topic, ensuring that I’m not directly regurgitating what was said in the information that goes along with the prompt. Or a quote always works nicely, too. I wouldn’t necessarily go to any trouble memorizing quotes though, besides maybe a few general ones, as you can always just make up some proverb from a Chinese emperor or what have you.
Is it sapient to include 2 examples with more details or 3 egs will shorter exp
I got an 11 on my essay when I took the SAT. My method has always been to introduce the topic I am being asked to address in the first sentence or two with some background information. Then I devote the next 2 sentences to the two possible sides I can take, with 1 sentence for Agreeing with the prompt and 1 sentence for Disagreeing with the prompt. Then I immediately go into a hard stance with my two examples by saying something like “However, it is obvious that…as demonstrated by ____ and ____.”
As for the number of examples, focus on getting two really good examples in first with plenty of details that strongly support your argument before giving thought to a third example. Obviously, if you have enough time for a decent 3rd example, then do it, but don’t try for a third example if you’re cutting it close on time. I only had 2 examples and I did fine.
