Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters/Packages.

BUMP!! What were the acceptances / waitlist / rejections like??

Deerfield’s package hasn’t changed from past years… handwritten postcard from the Dean of Admissions, green and white M&Ms, a poster of the school, and another post card from a rising senior welcoming you to the school. And I really like the whole Green Key thing… it keeps you connected to the school during the summer while you are both anxious and excited
Oh! And they send you and your parents separate packages that both say Congratulations! In the package that your parents have they send the financial info and a letter saying how they should be proud of their child(your) accomplishment. In your package you get another letter that says how you should be proud because of their lowering acceptance rate etc. And they have info about the revisit days

Exeter’s rejection was cold. It was a two sentence email. I wasn’t too happy about it.

Andover’s rejection was nice, well-written. But, it didn’t arrive until the next day, so I already knew I was rejected.

Deerfield’s wait-list letter was nice, but it wasn’t gushy. Just to the point.

I really liked St. Paul’s wait-list letter. They put my admission decision nicely, without telling me that “I’m awesome and the second coming of Jesus!”

Groton’s wait-list letter was nice as well. It came around 6pm, but I wasn’t surprised.

Middlesex’s wait-list letter was alright. It came around 9 in the morning. I checked it online in school. It was probably the most painful one for me to read.

@Ifax, it’s always darkest before dawn; I sense good things are coming your way this next tme around. Don’t despair. Something good will happen. Your luck is bound to change.

Thanks for the encouragement. Hopefully something will happen. At least I’m not applying to the same schools again.

ifax108 - Where are you applying?

@ifax: if you really liked a certain school and thought it was the right one for you, you should still apply. Two of my son’s friends just got into their school of choice. For one, it was her third try at the same school (all rejections previously, not even a wait list), and for the other it was her second try at the school of her choice (a previous wait list), and she was legacy, father was alumnus and sib goes there presently.

I’m not sure where I’m applying. I know I’m applying to Middlesex, Deerfield, and Kent. But aside from that, I’m not sure. I’m still waiting for more viewbooks to come. I got one from St. George’s today. SGS looks like a really nice school. And I’ve seen kids on this board who previously had multiple rejections go off to attend amazing boarding schools, sometimes even schools that rejected them. I’m remaining fairly hopeful for next year.

I’m applying to SG too! It’s my favorite! lol It looks like it has a GORGEOUS campus, and living on the beach (I’m a really beachy girl!) is another great plus.

I liked the look of St. George’s campus from the viewbook. I’m probably going to visit during one of their day with St. George’s things. Do you think you’re going to go to one of those?

Yeah, I want to, but I’m not sure what the dates are… but as soon as I do, I’ll definitely try to make arrangements to go!

Good luck to all !

bump! i think this thread might be beneficial to 2012 applicants!

So would most schools email our admission results to us? Do we get the package after march 10th or on the same day?

Well, I’ve only been accepted into a small boarding school in Maine. They had rolling admission, so I applied in Summer '11. After sending in my final document that needed to be sent in, I repeatedly tried to contact them to confirm if they got my document, but to no avail. About a month later, long after I thought my chances were gone, I went to the mailbox and there was this big hefty package from Hebron. I had a feeling I knew what it was, but I kept calm until I went into the kitchen by myself (this was at 11 o’clock at night and my family just came home from a long and eventful day whose contents I cannot recall). I opened the package and I pulled out the t-shirt that was inside, then the acceptance letter, almost fainted, and then ran to my mum. After about a minute of joy we calmed down and read the rest of the materials sent.

I didn’t attend as the financial aid award, although very generous, was not enough for me to attend :frowning: They were very nice throughout the process and was very sad to decline the acceptance, but I knew that if I were to attend my family would be put under extreme financial burden and I couldn’t do that to them.

Anyways, good luck to all and let’s hope we all get those big fat envelopes :)

Thanks. Let’s hope everyone! This is my first go at applying to boarding school, so I haven’t had any experience with admission/WL/rejection letters yet.

bump…
Does Andover’s acceptance always come on the morning of M10? Basically I’m asking if you don’t get a package on the morning of M10 were you rejected/WLed?

Does anyone know what the Berkshire acceptance/WL/rejection letter is like?

I would say from my personal experience, Lawrenceville probably has the worst rejection letter. Some schools letters were very comforting and reassuring, but from what I remember Lawrenceville stated something like that the accepted kids were simply more qualified. I do not think that that is an accurate or even appropriate remark considering that some very unqualified kids would get an acceptance because they came from a legacy or very wealthy family. Some kids might have garnered an acceptance because they were a minority geographically, racially, etc. Some kids could have gotten in simply because they were the son or daughter of a faculty. So, if you consider something that a kid was born into such as who their family knows or what town they are from a qualification, or how much money their parents donate, then alright, maybe those kids are more qualified. But I, and I think I am in the majority with this one, do not think that should be considered a qualification, but rather a hook, and in that case, that portion of the rejection letter should be retracted. Most of the accepted applicants probably were more qualified, but it is highly unlikely that all of them were.

Lville said that other applicants had “better credentials.” It was, by far, the worst because, as the previous poster pointed out, it is disingenuous at best. Most people wouldn’t consider many of the intangibles that are actually used to build a class to be “credentials.”

Personally, I don’t think the schools even need to give a reason in the form letters. Thank you for your interest and “don’t take it personally” are fine. But Lville almost went out of their way to say you aren’t good enough.
